Story of MG Farina Magnette, Chassis Number 21228
MG Magnette Mk4. Chassis number 21228, engine 4570. RHD. This Jersey registered connaught green Mk4 was purchased by a farmer on that island in the English Channel. Registered as 'J31138', on 22nd of May 1963, it was used for occasional outings, and shopping trips. Eventually ill health prevented the farmer from using the car, and it laid unused for 15 years.. Stephen Hewlett of St. John on Jersey heard about the laid-up MG Magnette, and assumed it was a ZB series. He purchased the car unseen, after a mechanic friend told him it was sound and rust free, paying £500 on 8th May 1989. After the initial shock to find he had purchased a Farina Magnette, and not the Palmer designed ZB, he eventually liked the car, and put it back into good order. It is still original, appart from rechromed items, some paintwork, and with only 10,163 miles. The MG wins prizes to cheer up its owner.
