Not too far from Thame is Abingdon, also in Oxfordshire. The town is ancient, and has the river Thames running through it. Abingdon is the home of the MG Assembly Plant, or was until 1981. The Farina MG was built at Oxford, in the area of Cowley, the home of Morris motor cars. Only one Farina Magnette ever went to Abingdon, and that was a car cut open for a motor-show display at Earls Court in 1959. Today the MG Factory is all but gone, bulldozed into a car park and a McDonalds. One building still stands, but it is for sale. The UK MGCC hopes to buy it as a MG museum.
