We have just received notification from Frank Vautier that he is parting company, after forty six years with his sun bronze MG YA. Many of you will have seen Frank racing his modified Y at Silverstone, it has certainly featured in many articles. Paul Barrow and David Pelham both remember Frank leading the parade lap at Silverstone in 1997 celebrating the Y Types Golden Jubilee.

In Reprinted Articles there is an excellent article on Frank's car - click here to access the article.

Frank has also provided the following information:

"I have owned this sun bronze saloon since 1967 which I started racing in 1972 at Silverstone. Tuned progressively over the years the car now has a 1350cc engine blown with a marshal J100 supercharger via an intercooler mounted in the battery box and then through a 2inch SU carburettor. The maximum boost is not certain because it has displaced the pressure gauge needle on it's axis but the engine developed 134bhp on Aldons rolling road. To cope with the extra power a TC spec gearbox was fitted together with MGA disc brakes to the front and MGZA rear axle and drum brakes to the rear. This allows a choice of back axle ratios between 5.1 (for Wiscombe hill climb) and 4.3 (for Silverstone). The seating and interior trim has been left as standard, although is not currently fitted and all body panels are the original steelwork. Stored in the barn for the last 10 years or so the car is now for sale."

Interested parties should contact either Paul Barrow or David Pelham who will pass details on to Frank.

4 May 2013

Please accept my apologies for the late start to your Y News for May 2013. I have been extremely busy both on and off the Y Type Scene. A contributor to the Bulletin Board commented on how quiet it was on the website - well, 4 new cars on Ys on Parade and a couple of other new ones on the database was enough to keep me occupied when time permitted. If you have emailed me of late, please excuse my tardiness in replying. As soon as time allows and my personal schedule slows down in June I will reply to you all.

The Picture of the Month is another from 'down under' from Australia and Ted Evans Y 4053.
