Merry Christmas one and all

Yes it’s that time of year again. The New season is starting to loom large in the distance and thoughts turn to pre-season car preparation. To aid with this I am enclosing a set of the draft regulations for the 2000 season. These have yet to be approved by the MSA, but forewarned is forearmed.

In the General Regs the biggest change is in the inclusion of a new marker for points scoring, the "Target" time of 102.5% of the Record time. This is to encourage new or novice drivers by rewarding the effort to get close to long established records.

The other point of note is a reprieve for BCF users, with this extinguishant being allowed until 2001.

There are very few changes from the 1999 Vehicle Regs except for a bit of tidying up of some of the typos and anomalies that crept in over the last couple of years. The biggest change for 2000 is the re-definition of Pump Fuel that will be in the MSA yearbook. In preparation for the demise of 4*, we have allowed unleaded mods to Standard class cylinder heads and the use of lead replacement additives, as will the MSA. But note that the maximum allowable octane rating for all fuels will again be 100, a little above standard Super Un-leaded levels, so some margin in additives is being allowed for.

One other change is to re-define the width of Road-going Modified Wheels to Standard + 1.5", recognizing that some of the new MGs already have 6" rims as standard equipment.

Calendar

After the nightmare that I had with the Calendar in 1999, I though 2000 couldn’t get any worse. I was wrong. No sooner had I settled on what I thought was a definite list of events, we lost meetings left, right and centre. MAC have withdrawn invitations to their meetings at Shelsley and MIRA. Hagley and District declined to invite us to Loton, and Finlake was off.

In response I have reduced both series calendars to 16 meeting, adding High Auldgirth to the Northern and Llys-y-Fran and Oddicombe to the Southern, along with a mystery event at a new Sprint venue in Wales. More of that when details are finalized.

The good news is that we are back at Prescott, and I have included it as an overlap meeting for both series’. But be warned only 20 places are guaranteed and these may be rationed between both North and South, although as a 2 day meeting past entries have suggested this may be enough.

On the entries to meetings front. I will be requesting that organizers accept in order of receipt only. The only time Sue will intervene is in the last third of the season, when drivers with their required 8 meetings will be asked to defer to drivers still chasing a full clutch of events. But we’ll play this by ear.

Well that’s all for now. Enjoy the festive season.
