The newsletter of the Luffield Cars MGCC Speed Championship
Also available at the championship web site www.mgcars.org/mgccsc

Welcome to another year…

Well, Jim's had more farewells from writing the newsletter than Status Quo, but this time he has finally made it stick. So the rest of your committee have been plucked from obscurity to produce this work of art!!

Not much to report that isn't in Paul's or Lawrie's notes, except the SW dinner dance & awards on the 22nd February went well, and the MGCC NW test session is coming up quickly on the 28th of March (Friday). A fun way to give your cars a test before the season starts! It's at 3 sisters in Wigan, Lancs. just off the M6 - £110 for a full day, half days £75 2nd drivers £10, passengers allowed (must have signed on).
If your car isn't fit come and kick tyres and marshall! - Contact John Fairclough on 01257 482265 to reserve a place.

Next a note from our new coordinator Lawrie Brown who you may have stuck up two fingers to at Anglesey!

Coordinators Notes

The calendar for the Luffield Cars MGCC Speed Championship is now almost complete, but there is one important change concerning the May meeting in Anglesey.
The meetings on May 24th and May 25th have now been designated as HILL CLIMBS.
This is because we were short of Hill Climbs, but had an excess of Sprints in the Northern calendar. We are hoping to add a further sprint in the Weekend 19/20 July.
This will give us 12 Sprints and 9 Hill climbs in the Northern section and 11 Sprints and 10 Hill Climbs in the southern section.

Registration
So far 16 drivers have registered for this years Championship.
With this Newsletter a registration form is enclosed. It will make the coordinators job much easier if you will quickly fill up and return these forms. Those of you who are new competitors will also need a Log Book. If the System works I shall pick up new competitors from my Data and automatically send a Log Book, but a little note attached to the registration form will simplify the task. Competitors who have already provided the Logbook information only need to inform the Scrutineers at their first event of any winter modifications.

We have run into a problem with competition classes where we are attending events by invitation. My attention was drawn to this problem earlier this year when it was pointed out that our classes were almost never the same as event organiser's classes. This left organisers with a big problem of where to run different entries, without ending up with an unwieldy number of classes.

There is no perfect answer to this problem. In the matter of the Luffield Championship, under the new regulations, the problem is resolved because cars compete by model. But Trophies won on the day are awarded on a "Fastest in Class" basis, and it is almost impossible to make this entirely fair.

What we intend to do is to run in four or five classes that are directly equivalent to our four Groups. That is Group 1 Standard, Group 2 Road going A, Group 3 Road going B and Group 4 Specials. Group 4 could be subdivided into Road going and Racing. (G4 & G4ra).

The regulations for the May meeting at Anglesey have been issued using last years classes. I will be liaising with Lancs & Cheshire on this matter and we will keep you informed of progress, but it would be helpful if when entering you marked your entry with the Luffield Group for which you are registered.

I apologise for this slight "cock up" but hope you will find it a reasonably satisfactory solution to a difficult problem.

Lawrie Brown

Ramblings From the Roddery Speed Com Meetings 7th Jan/ 4th Feb 2003

Hi All,
Sorry for the lack of contact since the last Luff Stuff, but the flexible calendar and the approval of the Regs for 2003 left the Jan news letter a bit thin, so I hope we have made up for it now!.
Congratulations to Hamish for getting the Regs, past the MSA first time, a feat rarely accomplished with only one minor typo required, regarding judicial proceedings being the only fault. (which was passed last year).

As you have probably guessed we have had two Speed Com meetings since the last Ramblings, focusing mainly on knocking the calendar into shape, there is a possibility of extra Sprint in the Northern series, which we will inform you of if it comes off.

On a more serious note, the main problem we have is, if the proposed war in Iraq happens, basically any military establishments become off limits to the general public at a moments notice, for very justifiable reasons, however we could instantly loose a couple of Southern meetings in particular. Your committee is working hard minimise these effects but we will press on with the calendar as published until the situation becomes clearer.

The main Joint Northern & Southern Meeting will be the September Ty Croes on the 6th & 7th for a two lap extravaganza, in sunny Anglesey (Awesome Track, Monster Track Time!)
The reason for the early plug is this meeting always books up solid 6 months in advance, so please enter as soon as the regs appear. We will try to get them to you 2 weeks before the other competitors, but after then it is up to you to do the business. The Grand Rodders Barbie will be back by demand.
NB Your cheques will Not be cashed before the event.

Although not totally clear in the MSA Blue Book the old BCF Halon Fire Extinguishers are banned for Motorsport use for 2003. Thus we will all have to buy a New AFFF or Equivalent extinguisher of 1.75 Litres capacity (Not 1.5kg) Minimum (For Speed Event Use). Although recommended by the MSA we decided in the best interests of all our competitors some years ago that the MSA minimum would be mandatory for our Championship. They are available from Peter May, Tweaks, Max Tyler Etc. NB those with plumbed in systems should contact the manufactures due to changes in nozzle sizes required with the new liquid AFFF from BCF Gas. You may get one events grace but don't bank on it. Rodders Tricky Tip

Some years ago my race winning Cockshoot car appeared a bit Noddy on the rollers after its winter slumber and rebuild, after a lot of expensive head scratching it transpired that the bob weights in the dissy were a bit sticky, no advance, no GG`s, De-gunged and lubed up with 3in1, 23 BHP came back to play, worth checking out.

All The Best     Regards Rodders
