Luffield Cars MG Car Club Speed Championship

With just a few rounds gone, we have a busy may in front of us! In the north, we have two of the three NW centre organized events Scammonden and Anglesey. Both have plenty of spaces left. Following large financial losses from the test day in March at three sisters, we need your support, without which these events will not continue, so please, try to attend! One of our competitors has been making the national motor sport press recently, deciding that the future lies in a thing called "racing" (it will never catch on) however we all hope he has more success than his better paid namesake! (Best of luck D.C.!) Lawrie's bit follows (what is a WMD?) Coordinator's Corner - April(ish) missive Our season proper is just beginning. As I write we have just 60 registrations, with equal numbers from North and South. This compares with a total last year of a few over 90, so there are still some to come. In particular, looking at the list, there are a number of "Famous Names" still not registered. If you are one of these please make an effort and get the form of to me A.S.A.P. In terms of car entries there are 23 Midgets and two Sprites, 16 assorted Bs, 2As,1 C, 2 Fs, 1 J2, 1 Maestro, 2 Metros (1 Turbo), 1 NA, 2TF (One car two drivers) and 2 ZR. A lovely selection of cars of all ages, but a little disappointing that the Z cars are so little represented. Some thought that a well-driven Z could take the Championship this year. The first year with new regulations always offers an opportunity for a shrewd operator! There are one or two new venues this year. Though they are a little distant, they look very interesting from the pictures and descriptions sent by the organizers. I hope a reasonable number of MGCC drivers will give them a go. We need to keep an eye open for new venues as the well known ones tend to become over subscribed. Finally, a word of regret to all my fans at Ty Groes (This spelling has been agreed by John Thomas and me as proper Welsh!) I shall not be present at the May meeting. The new date coincides with my 46th wedding anniversary. While my wife Ann is very supportive of our activities, she regards them as noisy and smelly, and therefore not a suitable celebration. In addition she is a musician, and the Halle are performing in Wrexham on Saturday evening. The appropriate WMD presented to me by a notable driver at the Northern dinner dance has been retained for a future occasion. Lawrie

Ramblings From the Roddery Speed Com Meetings 1st April / 28th April 2003
Hi All, Combined ramblings again and a move in date for the Speed Com Meetings to allow us to hit Safety Fast's Copy dates with new relevant news. We now have 82 registrations with 40 Northern, 42 Southern Competitors. Due to the Changes in the Regulations for 2003, there is a murky area in the regs that requires some further clarification. Namely the old " Car Swap Scam". Pre 03 for example, A Road Mod Midget could run in place of a sick / stuffed RGM MGB both cars being in the RGM Class. However unfortunately this is NOT possible now because each car is competing in its own capacity class within its own level of modification. So the Sick RGM(A) MGB in the previous example may only be replaced with a Less Sick RGM(A) MGB for points to count. It goes without saying that the Speed Com must be informed ASAP if a substitution occurs for championship points to count. Enforced Absences must be referred to the Speed Com and may require the registration of the alternate car with the championship.
Amalgamations were discussed however it was felt that in the North particularly so few events had run that a further months results would give a much clearer picture of relative performances.
Still loads of room for the MAY Tycroes Book NOW!!! Sept is near capacity, however I have heard that the is a very high fall out rate pre-event (Up to 50 Cars) So Enter, Get on the Reserve List and the is still a very good chance you will get a run.
MGCC NW Scammonden May 18th Enter Now. Mid Cheshire's event clashes with Silverstone and so an alternative solution is being worked on. The only Guaranteed Scammonden this Year is MG CC NW so phone David Rainsbury today with your entry 0161 427 4861, and bring lots of petrol!!.
Active consideration is being given to reducing the number of championship rounds next year in the light of reduced numbers of competitors and to give a good quality turnout at each event. Event organisers do not take kindly to 3 cars turning up when they are expecting 15-20. We will endeavour to ensure that we do get enough entries for all our cars. We hope that this move will control costs to competitors and enhance the fun that occurs when a bunch of MG`s get together.

Rodders Tricky Tip
Every body knows that getting the tracking right on the old clunker can make the world of difference to the handling, If you are feeling very brave try putting a set of tracking gauges on the back axle. It should be parallel!!. A touch of toe in is good if you can get it, toe out not good. Likewise negative camber excellent but expensive to achieve, (Lots of heat and a Very Big Press). Positive camber not good for anything except spinning (Jim G!!). For your next heart attack measure the distance between the wheels on each side and then across corners. If all is well you are very lucky and can be safe in the knowledge that your 400 HP are driving the old clunker forwards instead of being lost in rolling resistance.
All The Best, Regards Rodders
