MGCC Luffield Speed Championship

Co-Ordinators Corner - April 2005

Our Championship is now truly under way. The very early start meant some competitors were not really ready in time, and the weather was certainly not proper motor sport weather, but in spite of this some commendable performances were put up. In spite of the efforts of Iain and me to "fix" John Wilman with the target times, he seems to have found a bit more steam from somewhere, and is still the midget to beat.

Coming Events
I have copies of regs for Gurston Down and Ty Groes, and will shortly have regs for Prescott and Silverstone. Regs for most other events will be arriving in your post. There has been a little confusion regarding Three Sisters. This year we are invited to the Longton Sprint, and I believe many of you have received regs for this meeting, but you may also have received regs for the East Lancs meeting. Our competitors are indeed invited and will be made most welcome at this meeting, but it is not a round of the Luffield Championship.
(webmaster note - see available on-line regs via the Calendar)

With Prescott and Silverstone on consecutive days special arrangements are being made for scrutineering cars attending both meetings. We shall do our best to make this as easy as possible because we would like drivers to do both events where possible.

Sponsorship
I now have a considerable supply of sponsor decals, which I will be distributing over the next few days. These decals consist of Simple strip decals which can be placed over the 2004 decal to update to 2005, together with some small size decals which we would like you to attach to either the bonnet or tail of the car. These can also be carried on your daily use car.
As you will all realise our Sponsor, Luffield Cars, is in the middle of a very tough time with the collapse of MG Rover. Nevertheless David Wood of Luffield has assured me of their continued support, and has backed this up will a major financial contribution.
With all this in mind we must Support our Sponsor as much as possible. Please be sure to give the decals prominence at all events. John Wilman has a supply, and will be present at most Northern events, similarly T.J.Nicolson has a supply and is present at most Southern events. I still have a few 2004 Number backings, which can be converted by applying the 2005 decal. If you are in need just shout.

MG K3 Chassis No. 007
This Historic racing MG has registered to enter the Luffield Championship. There was a slight problem with the entry of this car as it runs on Methanol, and our regs require the use of "Pump Fuel"
I have carried out a major survey of registered competitors regarding this entry, and I am delighted to say that I received an overwhelming response in favour of allowing the car to run.
In view of this response we have granted a waiver of regulation 3.6.2 to this car, and we look forward to seeing it at Silverstone and some of the other events. Jeremy Hawke, who will be driving tells me that while it is very quick on the straight bits, he does have handling problems on the bendy bits. I am trying hard to persuade a few more MMM drivers to come and join us. I would also suggest that owners of "T" types should take a long hard look at some of the target times.

Happy Motoring

Lawrie
