Safety Fast! Notes for Aug 2005

Yet again I have no event reports - if you took part in the Wye Valley Social Run, Bath Gymkhana and/or the Oaksey Flying Day then please get in touch.

First off for August is the Chew Valley Gymkhana on the 7th. Fun is guaranteed, or your money back - please apply to Dave Coppock on 01934 834429 for a claim form!

There's still no news regarding the Mendip PCT on Sunday 14th August as Bruce Weston is searching for a new venue. Give Bruce a ring on 01963 440941 to see how he is getting on.

The second annual run to the Shelsley Walsh Festival is on the 21st August. Phil Archer has secured a discount on the admission price, providing there are sufficient numbers. He needs to sell 40 tickets to obtain an admission price of £12 per person (normal price £15) which, on the basis of last year's turnout, shouldn't be a problem. The ticket price includes a reserved car parking area and free paddock transfer. The meeting starts at 10am and finishes around 5pm. You can take a picnic or there are numerous places to purchase refreshments on the hill. For those wishing to travel in convoy, the meeting point will be at Michael Wood Services on the M5 northbound at 8.30am. Please call Phil on 01454 633209 to book your place.

Into September and our flagship event - the Wiscombe Park Hillclimb - on Saturday 10th. The event is a round of numerous championships, including the Luffield Cars MGCC Speed Championship. The venue is superb - a very tricky course with excellent spectating opportunities amongst the fantastic scenery. Last year was a sell-out, so get your entries in early. MGCC members will have to pay for admission this year, so the only way to see the action for nothing is to marshal. For an entry form, or to volunteer as a marshal (no experience required), please call Bruce Weston on 01963 440941.

I've had an e-mail from Trevor Jones of the MGA Register, inviting us to join the MGA and Magnette Registers for their visit to the Weston-super-Mare Helicopter Museum on Sunday 11th. I do not have Trevor's number, but I will be happy to pass on any e-mails.

The following weekend sees the third Bristol Sunday Lunch Run on the 18th, organised by yours truly (with a little help from Michèle). The route will take us around the lanes of North Somerset, Mendip and the Chew Valley. Navigation is simple and, as the name suggests, the run ends with Sunday Lunch. If we have as few entrants as last year, then lunch will be chez Lock! Please call me or send an e-mail for an entry form.

The Patchway Autotests are on Sunday 25th. This may be the last event at this venue, as the Rolls Royce site is scheduled for redevelopment. The organiser is John Delafield, his number is 01453 544497.

This month's picture is from Wiscombe Park in 2001. Does anyone know who it is?
