Safety Fast! Notes for November 2005

Maybe I've got my dates mixed up, but I'm thinking that this is my first 'article' to hit the news-stands proper! I've been told (second or third hand, in passing) that Safety Fast is to be part of a revitalised MG Enthusiasts magazine. I don't know how much I will be paid for my efforts, but expect that it will run to three or four figures (all of them zeros…). I will try hard to meet professional standards, and sincerely hope that my increased readership generates more a little more interest than of late. Just four of you responded to my request for your opinions on the plans for Kimber House. That got me thinking (again) about how many of you read the Notes, and how many of you enjoy the experience. I've been 'scribe' for a couple of years now and enjoy the challenge, but it would be nice to get some feedback now and again. Talking about feedback, I've removed my telephone number from the top of the Notes (or at least I have in the draft I sent for editing). Perhaps its just a perception, but I've had enough of callers whose telephone manner is less than, shall we say, 'polite'. I really do try to be helpful, but I'm an enthusiastic amateur rather than a paid enquiry service.

Anyway, rant over. November is a really difficult month for Safety Fast notes. There are no more events until the Spring, it's a bit premature to review the events of 2005 and its way too early to tell you about the events planned for 2006 (because they are not actually planned yet). As I said last month, I'll give you more details of the SW Centre Dinner in due course, but I can confirm the date to be Saturday 11th March 2006.

Phil Archer has sent me a report on the run to the Shelsley Walsh Festival and I quote: "55 members and friends of the MG Car Club attended the S W Centre's run to Shelsley Walsh on the 21st of August. This was the 100th anniversary of Shelsley Walsh, the oldest continuous motor sport venue in the world. Amongst the cars running up the hill were cars from almost every year giving a live 'motor museum in action' day. We were again privileged to see the hill record fall to 23.77 seconds and a Spitfire to entertain us whilst we had our lunch. Unfortunately the car park arrangements that had been made for us failed to materialise due to the record crowd, however everyone agreed that for £12 per person this was outstanding value for money." I've included a photograph of 'K' type, presumably taken by Phil!
