Safety Fast! Notes for May 2006

The Cheddar Valley Navigational Scatter attracted so many MGB GTs that it was almost inevitable that one would turn out to be the winner. In fact, two turned out to be winners: rally-supremo Dave Coppock was unable to split the GTs of your scribe and Andrew Owst, so a dead heat was declared. By way of irony, my GT was once the Owst family hack - complete with child seats in the back! This month's picture shows four of them - Bruce Morgan's awesome V8, the Sebring-kitted four-pot of Robin Fox, your scribe's 'go-faster' machine in the background and the Owst's sand-beige daily runner is just about visible on the left of the picture. Next time I'll get all six in the shot!

The popular Wye Valley Social Run is on Sunday 21st May. I reported last month that the Run normally takes in the scenery around the River Wye and Forest of Dean, stopping for lunch and afternoon tea at very well chosen locations. While lunch and afternoon tea are still very much on the agenda, the route is apparently a closely-guarded secret! When I organise something, the 'secret' is usually that I haven't actually organised anything yet, but in this case experience would suggest that the Davies' have found an even more scenic route than normal. If you want a splendid day out with friends amongst beautiful scenery, talk to Terry Davies on 01989 562366.

Don't forget the Bath Gymkhana on Sunday 4th June, and don't forget the afternoon start… Peter Jones has probably got some entry forms sorted-out by now - call him on 01225 837545 to find out.

The California Cup Inter-Centre Challenge Match is the clubs premier Autotest event, taking place on the Saturday of MGCC Silverstone. I shall not say too much here, as hopefully there is a fuller feature elsewhere in Safety Fast!. If you want to enter, pick up a form from the website or complete the relevant section of the Silverstone Supplement. As I am taking the entries and calculating the results, SW members should be in with a shout for the silverware!

Tony Blake collared me at the Cheddar Valley Naviscat to plug MG Auto and Aero Day at Oaksey (near Malmesbury, in Wiltshire) on Sunday 2nd July. The special visitors this year are the DH Moth Club who will be arriving (weather permitting) with forty assorted Tiger Moths, Hornet Moths and every other sort of Moth as part of their summer tour. There will also be a 'Fun Gymkhana' - getting the ball in a bucket, stopping on the cross and so on. Entry for members is £5 per car and occupants; entry fee for the Gymkhana is a further £5 for unlimited runs. You can take a picnic or partake of the barbecue and cake stall. As usual all proceeds will go the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and local charities. I wish you good weather, Tony!
