Safety Fast! Notes for January 2007
The
Annual Dinner and Presentation of Awards will take place at the Limpley Stoke
Hotel on Saturday 10th March 2007 at 7.30pm. Fuller details are available on the website or direct
from John Bird on 0117 956 0175. Members and guests who
wish to stay overnight should contact the Hotel directly on 01225 723333 to reserve a room. Rates including
full English breakfast are £65 for a double/twin and £44.50 for a single. When making a booking please
mention that you are attending the Dinner.
As I write, John Delafield is busily confirming the SW calendar of events for 2007. A programme card
will be included in the March issue of Safety Fast! for SW members. For those of you in the rest of
the world, and for SW members who cannot wait, then I will publish basic details of all of the events in the
Notes next month.
I am able to publicise one event – probably the first
of the season – as I am the ‘lucky’ organiser! Dave Coppock and the Cheddar Valley Navigational
Scatter are taking a sabbatical to be replaced by the South Gloucs Navigational Scatter. I’ve been
volunteered to organise the event on the basis of that nobody else can get close to the Lock/Cooke crew at
Cheddar; okay, so we used a Vauxhall Vectra on one occasion, Richard and Anthony pipped us to the post on
another occasion by virtue of their sixteen valves and SatNav, and the Owsts scraped a tie in last year’s
event - but four out of five is not at all bad… Anyway, that’s enough bragging!!! The South Gloucs
Navigational Scatter will take place on Sunday 24th March starting and finishing somewhere in the
neighourhood of Wotton-under-Edge. In addition to the normal classes following the normal format, there will
be a special ‘novice’ category whereby – for the price of a new map – I will plot the points for you
in advance (but I’ll need at least two weeks notice). Anybody can enter the novice classes (there will be
two, for old cars and new cars split at an arbitrary date that I will decide on the day depending on
entries) but they are intended for those of you who would like a gentler morning of motorsport and is
particularly suited to husband and wife crews…
After three and a half years on the throne, I am taking a well-earned break to soup-up the GT so next
month will be my last Notes for a while. The SW committee has stepped up to the plate and will be taking
turns at the Notes for the foreseeable future. As next month will be chock-a-block with calendar details,
I’ll fill the remaining space this month with something to remember me by - a picture taken from the Chew
Valley Gymkhana in August 2006. If you were there then you’ll understand the body language…!
