Safety Fast! Notes for December 2007

Events Past and Present

The Kimber Production car trial was held on Sunday the 21st of October and the weather was Smashing! A grand total of 27 entrants took part in a strange variety of cars, ringing from 1880’s to an Ariel Atom! The best MG went to Gerald Burridge in his PB.

Great thanks must go to Bruce Weston as ever for organising such a great event and everyone that helped him. I am only sorry I missed it as I had to make use of the good weather to continue to block pave my drive, which at the time of writing this is still not finished, may be this weekend?

That’s it then! No more South West Centre events this year, unless the December Christmas dinner has not yet been eaten! (It’s on Tuesday 4th Dec at the Ring of Bells, Compton Martin). The next thing to look forward too is the Christmas break and all the benefits that brings, for those of us at work a well earned holiday and some time at home, for the retired a well earned holiday and some time at home! This can be spent in a number of ways as indicated.

1         Eating.
2         Drinking.
3         Sleeping.
4         Socialising (family, friends or like minded people).
5         DIY tasks (usually set by the other half!).
6         Working in the garage/shed.

Most people will end up doing most, if not all, of the above and this will only prove that they are all good well-balanced pillars of the community, but I guess, as MG people rather a lot of our time will be spent on number 6.

This is a good time of year to restart or continue with a project that has slipped to the back of the queue (due to a huge variety of reasons) and will hopefully give a new urgency to the neglected project, with new goals and dates set in ones mind for 2008.

Mine will be trying to renew my enthusiasm for MIG welding, as my MG Midget still has no passenger or boot floor! I will also have to buy a new bottle of Argoshield Light as the last person to use the MIG forgot to switch the gas off! I am a chump!

Lastly to the picture, a “banana” coloured MGBGT parked in our car park at work surrounded by a lot of much newer, more expensive, bland means of transport. It just goes to show that a car from the early seventies, over 30 years old can still stand out and be an everyday mode of transport, even one that colour!

Have a good Christmas, regards

Jon Pittard.
