Safety Fast! Notes for June 2008

I must start with reporting sad news, Kieron Winter who was the Chairman of Bristol Pegasus Motor Club collapsed and died of a massive heart attack while marshalling at the Wessex Sprint. Following the incident, the Clerk of the Course and other key officials, who knew Kieron well, were concerned about their ability to continue to perform their duties in the event of another incident; hence for the safety of the competitors the event had to be cancelled prior to the end of the first timed runs. Kieron was a great guy and will be sadly missed by many people, a real gentleman. There are many moving tributes to Kieron on the Bristol Pegasus website, www.bristolpegasus.com.

Back in April the centre again hosted a successful Kimber Classic Trail with a good entry of 27 cars including 6 entries from Holland boosting the MMM / T types entries to 21 cars. The main MG awards went to Peter Jones, Alex Tewes, Dave Coppock and Jim Burridge. A good turn out of 55 attended the evening meal, during which Alan and Pauline Grassam were presented with a memento in appreciation of their 20 years heading the organisation of the event, (see photo). For those who still wanted more fun, a Gymkhana was run on the Sunday morning to round out off a great MG weekend.

Bath Gymkhana - 1 June
Better mention this, although you probably will have just missed it.

Silverstone California Cup Autotest - 14 June
The Centre continues to run this event on the Saturday morning. There are classes for all MGs so why not give it a go? Neil Lock (01275 817915) would be more than happy to receive your entry or why not volunteer to marshal. Entry forms are on our web site or give Neil a call but don’t delay.

MG Auto-Aero Day – 6 July
This is the centre’s major social event, so come along, relax, admire the MGs and the planes which fly in and out during the day. We have a new venue Henstridge Airfield between Sherborne and Shaftesbury. As usual check out our web site for details or give Tony Blake a call (01179 790108). This year we will be able to run a more free flowing Gymkhana. If you’ve never entered the tests are going to be really easy and ideal for the complete beginner. Finally, if you can make a weekend of it Tony can provide a special deal to attend the Yeovilton International Air Day on the Saturday.

Pucklechurch Gymkhana - 13 July
A popular fun event, it takes place just north of Bristol in a big field, wheel spinning freedom, more details on the web or Phone Jon Pittard 01275 879632.
