Safety Fast! Notes for June 2009

Back in April the centre again hosted a successful Kimber Classic Trail with a good entry of 31 cars, all but 4 being MGs, includings 13 MMMs. Thanks as usual to Andrew, Bruce and all the other helpers. Results are on our web site.

The first Bank Holiday weekend in May required all hands to the deck to man our stand at the ever popular Bristol Classic Car show and help run the Wessex Sprint. This year the car show was held over 3 days, it benefited from the forced date move due to the snow in February, attracting some 12,000 visitors. The Wessex Sprint although well supported lacked a large MG entry, results are again on our web site. Thanks to all marshals and helpers, turning an airfield into a sprint course and back again is no 5 minute job!

Chepstow Auto Challenge – 20 June This is an “all forward” autotest run by Bristol Pegasus Motor Club at Chepstow Race Course. The aim is to run a fun event rather than a memory test! Regs are on our web site or contact Chris Thompson 01454 615604, don’t delay entries close on 8 June. It’s also a round of our Centre’s championship.

MG Auto-Aero Day – 5 July This is the Centre’s major social event, so come along, relax, admire the MGs and the planes which fly in and out during the day. The venue is again Henstridge Airfield between Sherborne and Shaftesbury. As usual, check out our web site for details or give Tony Blake a call 01179 790108.

MG Track Day – Castle Combe – 6 July This is organised by the MGCC’s ‘MGs-on-Track’ team, see their web site for details, www.mgs-on-track.com.

Silverstone California Cup Autotest - 11 July The Centre continues to run this event on the Saturday morning. There are classes for all MGs so why not give it a go? Find out more from the California Cup ‘micro-site’, click on the link from our web site or from the MG Live site. As ever any offers for marshals will be gratefully received, just call – I live in hope.

Did you miss the Bath Gymkhana? (31 May), this is Russ Morgan on the line at last year’s event, with Rob Orford keeping control of proceedings. I just can’t understand why more members don’t enter this type of event, cheep fun motorsport. Till next time, drive safely.
