Safety Fast! Notes for July 2009

The Past.

The Kimber Classis Trial & Gymkhana came and went in April. This year the weather was good, sunny all day. The ground was baked hard so there was none of the slippery surfaces and mud that can be the hallmark of trials—this gave the results sheets a somewhat uniform appearance but all who came seemed to enjoy themselves and promised to return next year.
Thoughts should go to the mainstay of the organisational effort, the indefatigable Bruce Weston, who was faced with another event that had had to be cancelled earlier in the year asking to use a goodly part of the route he had planned. As we are not allowed to use the same road more than once on the trial a huge amount of circular route planning (and authority gained) had to be undertaken just weeks before the event so a bit thank you to Bruce as well as all the helpers on the day.

The Wessex Sprint at Colerne was in early May and a good entry in this three club event ensured excellent motor sport and a profit at the end of it. I don’t know what they get up to with our equipment but I had to repair over 20 cones before the Bath Gymkhana ! Maybe a little more care needed on the corners chaps……..

The Wye Valley Social Run in mid May is another meeting I have been meaning to get to for the past ten or a dozen years—I nearly made it this year but the king pins didn’t please the MOTer this time (‘well you have had 20 years use out of them sir and I have been suggesting replacement for the past 3 years’….). I gather that it was its usual delirious drive through the border country doubtless with well chosen stops for refreshments and socialising along the way.

The Bath Gymkhana at the end of May suffered a bit from being held on the schools half term holiday so all dutiful parents were frolicking in the surf with their children rather than zooming round timed tests at Charmy Down—which was a pity. Those that did make it enjoyed three attempts each at the eight tests lovingly laid out by Victoria. There may appear a brief report elsewhere within these covers—if not got to the SW Centre’s web site at http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgccsw/ where I confidently expect that it will have appeared by now.

Dave Mothersdill in his 'new' MGB on his first outing   Just look at the beauty that surrounds this wonderful site--pitty about the TA in the way  Looks klike a cricket match but actually entrants 'walking' the firrst test
