Unrestored TF9097

TF HDB26/9097 (built 26th February 1955) was imported new into Melbourne, Australia by Lanes Motors who attached their brass plate to the upholstery. The first owner chose this remaining Birch Grey TF 1500 over the new MGA and registered this car on the 2nd of June 1955 and took exceptionally good care of this car, keeping all receipts and a log of his journeys. My Father became the second owner of 9097 in 1973 complete with its original tool kit, fragile half tonneau and paperwork including the sales brochure with the quoted price written on it.

The TF came into my ownership in 1989 and I have striven to find a suitable balance between conservation and restoration. For example, the carpets and seat covers became too fragile to use so I have replaced these with close-to-original items whilst keeping the originals as a valuable reference. The exterior paintwork is original with the exception of the guards (wings) and piping which I have replaced or repainted. New hood and side screens have also become a necessity. Whilst the engine has been repainted at least twice and most of the rubber items have been replaced, much of the firewall is still original with the original wiring loom. The interior retains the original side panels and side screen box as well as the factory dash and instrument panel paint. As of February 2017 the well documented mileage stands at 173 thousand and this TF was still wearing its original Victorian state licence plates.

Note: Obviously there have been some modifications to these cars since they were produced in the interest of keeping them running. You will notice for example that some of the flexible fuel and oil lines, battery, fan belts, spark plug wires, and radiator hoses were replaced. We will try to call out the exceptions in the photo credit area below.
