ALL SYSTEMS GO
Many will have seen the potential record breaker Thrust SSC on TV news late October when it was testing at Farnborough shortly before its departure to Jordan. Our MGC-owning MGOC member Phil Cubitt, whose company Marilake Instruments have designed and made the dashboard panel that is now situated in the SuperSonic Car, has access to up-to-date information on the project. Marilake's Chief inspector Robert Atkinson is now a Thrust team member and is currently in Jordan. His job is to help prepare the vehicle for each run at the turn-around stage, making sure all systems are operational, fault finding electrical problems and ensure communication between pilot Andy and base audible. He reports that Thrust is starting runs next Sunday (10th November), doing 3 or 4 a day, building up speeds until it certainly takes the existing record of 633mph. It is unlikely the car will go supersonic just yet as there is not enough space. Rover are also supporting the project, as the MG logo on the craft bears witness. Sadly the main rival for the Land Speed Record Craig Breedlove crashed his Spirit of Amercia well in excess of 600 mph so will not be a contender for several months.

RIVERS' CONTINUES TO FLOW
Motoring historian Rivers Fletcher still continues to entertain enthusiasts nationwide with his talks and film shows. Showing historic and vintage, pre-war and post-war films, many contain unique new footage not seen before with great personalities, famous drivers and their cars. Rivers is next appearing on 4th December at Moor Lodge Hotel, Branston, Lincoln and also on Wednesday 19th February at St Albans. Both start at 8pm and tickets are £8. GOING GOING BACK
Remember the British Car Auctions? Well they're back. In reality they are the now well established ADT Auction house adopting their name and as from New Year will be known as British Car Auctions. The company now have 24 auction centres nationwide, holding over 100 sales a week including disposal of some of Europe's biggest fleet companies which usually mean good deals can be found. Of course, classics including MGs pass regularly under the hammer at general and more specialist auctions so catalogues are always good for a browse if looking for a specific car.
