The race got off to a slow start for the MGF team and it's driver, Don Kettleborough. His efforts to get to the front of the pack were hampered by Gary Townsend in his MG Midget. Townsend had held off Kettleborough until the final lap, but when they came up to a backmarker, Kettleborough made his move, in a three abreast manoeuvre which relegated Townsend to second place.
