MG Collier Cup at the SVRA Zippo Vintage Grand Prix

The MG Vintage Racers have selected the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association's Zippo Vintage Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International on September 10-13, 1998, as the merry band's "focus event" for 1998. The event will celebrate the 50th anniversary of sportscar racing at "The Glen."

SVRA plans a memorable weekend for all vintage racing enthusiasts and especially for MG racers. Plans include:

• The traditional Collier Cup race for MGs;
• The Downtown Festival in Watkins Glen including a tour of the original course;
• An All MG paddock area;
• An MG Vintage Racers dinner Friday night; and
• Modified Driver qualification and car safety requirements for MGs.

In addition, the New England MG T Register will be holding its fall GOF (Gathering of the Faithful) in nearby Painted Post, New York, on the same weekend and has offered to make rooms available for MG Vintage Racers attending the event. And finally, the North American MMM(Midget, Magna, Magnette) Register has selected the Watkins Glen gathering as one of their main events for 1998.

The MG Vintage Racers are active racers of vintage MGs who collectively fund a sporadic publication called the MG Vintage Racers' Newsletter. MGVR's "focus event" highlights one or two events annually that MG vintage racing enthusiasts can plan for, knowing there will be plenty of fellow MGs in attendance. MGVR supported the 1994 SVRA event at Watkins Glen which celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Collier Cup race, and some 60 MGs took to the track.
