PRESS RELEASE
Bob Welch takes the title!
Scunthorpe based driver Robert Welch has driven to his second Class title
and the overall Championship in an action packed racing year, in the
Drayton Manor Park M G Metro Cup. Bob won the standard class A in 1994 and
then moved up to run a home built and prepared Class B modified MG Metro
finishing second in the class in 1997. Since the start of this season at
Cadwell Park he has driven some inspired and challenging races, taking six
maximum point rounds of class win and fastest lap. Despite such dominating
form the competition was fierce with the title finally being clinched at
the last round. Bob will collect the Bourne Contract Support Services
Trophy at the Dinner and Dance later this month.
Mark Bellamy took victory in Class A despite a close battle with the very
fast John Retchless and the Turbo tussle in Class C went all the way to the
wire and was decided only on the number of overall wins, Jason Burgess had
taken six throughout the season to Rupert Lloyds two.

Metro Cup featured on primetime TV
Every motoring enthusiast I know watches Top Gear and if you were watching
on October 29th you will have enjoyed seeing Tiff Needell driving one of our
MG Metros at the Silverstone International round in June. The response from
this short feature has been staggering and we hope bodes well for another
great season of close racing in 1999!
Press Officer Singing Off
After four years of bombarding you with press releases I am stepping down
from my post at the end of the season. Trevor and I have enjoyed our racing
and our work with the Championship and we would like to extend our grateful
thanks to all of you who have helped to get the Drayton Manor Park MG Metro
Cup more widely known. After the clubs AGM at the end of the month I am sure
you will hear from the new press officer but in the meantime please contact
Kevin Pateman on 01529 460169.
