BMW Board Director Wolfgang Zeibart was quoted at the Detroit Motor Show as stating that BMW had 'no plans to return MG or Rover to the US market', the German company preferring to concentrate on the new Mini, various Land Rover products and the forthcoming new BMW sports car to replace the American-built Z3. An MG spokesman confirmed that this was the case: 'there are no plans for MG right now - but of course that doesn't preclude anything in the future. The major problem for MG would be the lack of a dealer network - which requires substantial commitment'.
