MG POWERS INTO 2001

In 2001, the MG brand will be developed from a single model to a complete range of roadsters and saloon cars.

Leading this renaissance of the internationally renowned sporty MG brand, the MG Rover Group announces today a major extension to its MGF roadster line-up.

The MGF has been the UK’s top selling roadster since its launch in 1995.

And for 2001, the roadster will offer both a new higher performance 1.8 engine derivative and a new 1.6 entry model. True to the brand’s reputation for performance and affordability, these new derivatives will reinforce MGF’s roadster market leadership.

The MGF Trophy 160 is a Special Edition version of the 1.8 VVC and produces 160PS. In line with the additional power it will have larger disc brakes and calipers, new 16" alloy wheels, uprated and lowered suspension, rear and front end spoilers and some striking new colours.

Commenting, Rob Oldaker, MG Rover product development director said: "The MGF roadster is the icon of the brand and will now have even better performance and handling with the Trophy 160 SE. In addition, the 1.6i will offer increased accessibility to the brand with a starting price of well below £16,000."
