KNIGHTHAWK WANTS A MIAMI WIN

MG Lola Fresh from an LMP 675 class win at the Monterey Sports Car Championships, the KnightHawk squad hopes that they can duplicate their recent success with the class win at this weekend’s Cadillac American Le Mans Challenge Grand Prix Americas in Miami.

This event will mark the first time since 1995 that the streets of downtown have rumbled with the power and echoed with the roar of world-class racing machines. The Downtown Miami Street Circuit contains 15 turns over its 1.57-mile length. The 2-hour and 45-minute timed event will be the 9th round in the 10 round American Le Mans Series Championship. The race will be televised live by our friends at the Speed Channel beginning at 4:00pm EDT on Saturday, October 5.

Steve Knight, Chad Block and Claudia Huertgen will once again pilot the team’s #11 Gestetner/DNTLworks MG Lola 675 LMP and hope to duplicate their win at Laguna Seca. The KnightHawk squad is a mere one point behind team championship leaders Intersport Racing. With Intersport currently at 156 and KnightHawk at 155 a move-up into first by the popular KnightHawk team is well within possibility.

“We will be pulling out all the stops in the hopes that we can take the next step to the team points lead,” said team co-owner and driver Mel Hawkins. “The competition has gotten better and better and we’ll have to be better than ever to have a chance. We were lucky enough at Laguna to finish first and close on the Intersport team in the points chase. We hope that our luck will continue in Miami.”

"We're looking for some fun in the sun in Miami,” said team owner and driver Steve Knight. “Coming on the heals of our win at Laguna Seca, we will be trying very hard to make that top step on the podium again.

"It is again exciting to be headed to another ALMS race weekend with KnightHawk. I'm sure Miami will be an exciting new venue for us and will have tremendous success. Laguna Seca was great for us as a team and I think the performance of the crew and the drivers will continue. I need to thank Gestetner for again making this season possible, it's been a dream season for me."

KnightHawk is pleased to have signed the Gestetner-sponsored “up and comer” Block for the remaining three races of the 2002 ALMS season. Huertgen, last year’s KnightHawk season teammate, reunited with the popular squad for the American Le Mans Series’ race at Mosport International Raceway in Canada and for the win at Laguna Seca.

Block brings with him the support of the Gestetner Company. Gestetner offers leading-edge digital document management solutions, including digital duplicators, digital imaging systems, network laser printers and facsimile machines that deliver document output solutions for businesses of all sizes at speeds from 13-105ppm.
