KNIGHTHAWK HOPES TO SECURE TITLE AT PETIT LE MANS

MG Lola KnightHawk Racing hopes to secure the LMP 675 Team Championship at the final race of the American Le Mans Series 2002 season the Audi presents Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta this weekend October 10-12, 2002.

The popular prototype team passed rival Intersport Racing with a pole and a class win at Miami’s Cadillac Le Mans Challenge on October 6. KnightHawk goes into the endurance classic here in North Georgia with a 9-point lead.

Team co-owner Mel Hawkins will pair once again fellow team co-owner and driver Steve Knight and rising ace Chad Block in the #11 Gestetner/DNTLworks MG Lola 675 LMP. The Petit Le Mans is a 10 hour or 1000 mile endurance race on Road Atlanta’s 12-turn 2.54-mile road racing course.

“This will be a very tough race,” said Mel Hawkins. “The competition from the other MG Lola’s will be fierce and there is a whole new group of Reynards to contend with also. In our last two wins we have been very good and have had luck go our way - we will need luck on our side again. It is a long race and there is still a question about the reliability of the MG's. My guess is that the team with the least extra time in the pits will be the victor. I hope lady luck will smile on us again and that "one" will be the KnightHawk. Surely our team has worked hard enough over the course of the season to earn yet another win.”

"We've got our work cut out for us. It’s going to be a tough, trying race. We’re going to give it our best shot, and hopefully we'll come out on top,” said Steve Knight.

Chad Block added - "Petit Le Mans will be a different twist. The demands of the 10-hour race will certainly affect our race strategy, but the team prepares very, very well. If the equipment can last, then I think we will be in a good position to bring home some more points towards the championship. I personally cannot wait to get back on track at Road Atlanta - I had my first career pole their last year in the Star Mazda Championship."

Block brings with him the support of the Gestetner Company. Gestetner offers leading-edge digital document management solutions, including digital duplicators, digital imaging systems, network laser printers and facsimile machines that deliver document output solutions for businesses of all sizes at speeds from 13-105ppm.
