Navigational Scatter Rally

Sunday 10th April

4 photos showing many of us plotting our route, plus overall winners Alan and Stephen.
Also on the shot are Sue and Wendy, very willing and much appreciated helpers.

What is this all about??? Well it is quite simple, the organisers decide on 18 different “plots” on an ordinance survey map. The competitors find these “plots” on the copy of their own map and then decide upon a route that will take them to 12 of their choosing. This route planning stage is crucial; the overall winner of the event will be the couple that do the least mileage in driving to their selected 12 “plots”. The other thing is at each “plot” there will be a clue that the competitors must find and record on their entry sheet. This of course ensures they have actually being to that point on the map.

Enough of technicalities, the weather was gorgeous and the entry list was full, all the plots were found and off everyone went. Funny though everyone seemed to have a different idea of the ideal route! This being good planning by the organisers ensuring that a variety of differing routes could be the shortest.

Nevertheless naturally only one route was the shortest and that was found by our winners on the day, father and son team Alan and Stephen Wright. High drama towards the end though, an MGA was “conked out” fortunately it was not the nice Iris blue example, so I and a couple of other helpful souls went on a rescue mission. Whilst we tried very hard to help its owner Robert to make it better, the lack of new bits meant it needed to be towed to a friendly organisers house for safe keeping. Many thanks to Ian Mackenzie, for providing shelter to the stricken MG and to Kevin Pateman for towing it there. I dearly hope that beautiful MGA gets mended quickly.
