Revival AutotestSunday 22nd MayMay 22nd dawned early for a Sunday! The MGB needed to be checked over and John & I needed a hearty breakfast to feed the brain cells for the task ahead! Back in the Summer of 2004, Mike Hewson mooted the idea of an event to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Lincolnshire Centre. The idea was to get everyone together to ‘drive as quickly as possible between the plastic cones’ just like we all did 25 years ago! Mike worked tirelessly to get as many as possible of those original drivers, together with new MG enthusiasts, along to the Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby. Twenty entrants ranging from teenagers to those in their more senior years brought along a selection of cars from an MG PA and a Frazer Nash to a Triumph Stag, an MG Midget and MGBs of all types, through to a variety of Minis and a Rover Metro. This gave the spectators and marshals plenty to look at... The morning had started with sunshine and Mike Taylor carefully scrutineering all the vehicles taking part. Sue Mackenzie was busy preparing her score sheets and Peter & Jean Ellis signing on the competitors. Many members and friends marshalled the event to ensure we all took the correct routes, stopped astride lines where required to do so and Derek Wright & Peter Ellis kept their fingers busy with the stopwatches. The tests were simple to begin with using a “wiggle woggle” format and progressed to more difficult manoeuvres! At the end of the seven tests, the winners were declared by Mike Hewson and Competitions Secretary Kevin Pateman helped award the Rosettes to those in 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each class:- | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
