4x4 Off-Roading

Sunday 20th November

I am writing this on my return from the very successful 4x4 offroad course held at the Benniworth Springs 4x4 Off Road Academy.

We had the use of two Land Rovers, long wheel base and short wheel base models. The weather was very bright and sunny with a hard frost from the previous night. In the water splashes the ice was around an inch thick, which made for very demanding levels of concentration and skill.

Peter Hermite in particular impressed the instructors by successfully completing the telephone poles. This was where he had to drive along two horizontal parallel poles in icy conditions, not slipping any of the wheels off.

It was quite unbelieveable how the Land Rover can negotiate angles of up to 40 degrees and not tip over. Very interesting when seated in the back!!

I was very impressed with all of our drivers on the day. Well done to all of them. There wasn't one who didn't have a big grin on their faces when we got back to the car park.
