New Year’s Day Run & Pride of OwnershipSunday 1st JanuaryLooking at the sparkle in people’s eyes and the spring in their step, it was hard to believe that some of the drivers and passengers of the 35 cars that assembled at the Abbey Lodge, Kirkstead, Woodhall Spa, around lunchtime on January 1st for the Annual New Years Day Run, had (allegedly) been doing the Gay Gordon in public and celebrating the dawn of a new year in varying degrees only hours before. That aside, most people tucked into a hearty lunch before the judging of the Pride of Ownership. Steve Wilkinson and his MGA Coupe deservedly took home the First place rosette and a bottle of bubbly (kindly donated by the Abbey Lodge). In second place was Dave Gosling’s MGBGT. It’s good to see a relatively new member getting in on the act and will hopefully encourage more people to ‘have a go’. Well done, Dave. With John Hebb’s MGTF135 claiming the third rosette the modern types added to the variety of cars on the day. Ribbons of snow lacing the greenery of the picturesque Lincolnshire Wolds provided a seasonal backdrop as the cars wended their way towards the finishing point at the Black Horse Inn at Donington on Bain. What better way to finish the day (and start a new year) than Coffee and Mince Pies and a chat. Derek and Lynn Wright received everyone’s thanks for an enjoyable and well organised event. Dave Noble |
