Bubble Car Museum Visit

Wednesday 7th June

Some months ago, Kevin Pateman proposed visiting the 'Bubble Car Museum' at Byards Leap between Sleaford and Newark.

Over twenty curious MG Car Club members met at the museum on Wednesday 7th June to find out more about the world of micro cars in general and Bubble Cars in particular. Unfortunately, due to business away from Lincolnshire, Kevin was unable to join in the fun.

The museum includes the largest collection of some of the strangest cars from the 50's, 60's & 70's up to the present day!

We were treated to a talk on the history of many of the Bubble Cars in the museum and information of what life was like half a century ago. Going on holiday was certainly different in those days...

How some of the vehicles were conceived beggared belief and how you got a family into one of the micro-caravans and towed it with an underpowered three wheeler amazed us all.

Outside the museum awaiting restoration were some unusual small vehicles and motorcycles. One had a large door at the front and another at the rear to allow entry to a bench seat at either end - fixed back to back with the engine in the space between them - a real conversation killer. Chairman, John Laurence, is seen trying out a tiny car made in the late 1990s.

All agreed it had been a great evening and anyone who missed out can find more information on the Bubble Car Museum by logging onto www.bubblecarmuseum.co.uk The museum is located off the A607 south of the village of Leadenham and west of Cranwell, between Sleaford and Newark.

Thanks to Kevin for organising the visit for us.
