The Silverstone California Cup
International Autotests

Saturday 24th June

Saturday 24th June dawned early for the intrepid competitors from the Lincolnshire Centre. Six were part of teams and others competing for the first time. Adrenalin levels were, therefore, high.

The photos tell the story of
     - "how close you can get to a cone"
     - "how you can make the tyres smoke"
     - "how you can overcome those nerves"

The event finished, the teams retired to have a well-earned beer or soft drink to cool down. The news that we were needed for the Trophy Presentation in the afternoon came as a shock. We couldn't have won anything. But we had!

We were competing in MGBs and had won the MGB Register Trophy. The team of Nigel Pack, John Payne and Sheila Laurence were ecstatic.

The next announcement was for the winners of the California Cup. There were several teams of Midgets, many with Limited Slip Diffs, so we stood back. When the announcement that we had won the California Cup came, we were stunned!

Doug Samuel's 'BMC Truck' once again graced the event, this year with a beautiful array of MGAs completing the picture.

The Barbeque organised by Sue and Carol and their team and cooked by the 'men' was a lovely end to the day. Thanks too to Bob Welch for organising the camping arrangements.

Here's to next year.
