The Mid Lincs Rover Club
Rally 2006

Sunday 9th July

Sunday 9th July dawned warm and sunny. It was to be a very relaxing and enjoyable day at the Aviation Heritage Centre, East Kirkby, as MG Car Club Lincolnshire Centre had been invited to join in 'Rover Day'.

It was lovely to see so many MGs in such a lovely setting and the sunshine made them look even more beautiful.

A good friend of the Lincolnshire Centre, Dave Stonehouse, has recently moved from Essex to live in our Gold Cup Centre. When his wife, Veronica, bought some squares to guess the 'Rover Viking's Birthday' she thought she had chosen her Mother's Birthday, 13th July.

She realised too late she had completed the square for January, not July, but decided to leave it where it was. The announcement that the Viking's Birthday was in fact 13th January meant she was able to give Dave the treat of a lifetime: A seat inside the Avro Lancaster 'Just Jane' during the Engine Run Up!

Dave was delighted at the prospect and enjoyed the reality of being in the cockpit of such a beautiful aircraft. A memory that will last a lifetime.

As well as the MGs, there were some beautiful examples of the Rover Marque, old and new, and an array of 'other makes'. An unusual version of the MGB was spotted by Kevin Pateman and Ian Mackenzie as they were perusing the vehicles on display. It seems that Abingdon produces a 'Fast Back' version in Red with a Blue roof...

Rest assured, that MG Car Club Lincolnshire Centre will endeavour to be included in the 2007 event and we will keep you posted regarding the date as soon as it is confirmed.

Winners of the "MG of the Day'' award, Ian & Sue Mackenzie with their Citroen MGBGT V8
