Gold Cup Autotest

Sunday 10th September

A sunny day, a selection of well prepared cars and MG friends was the perfect recipe for a fantastic day’s motorsport at the Aviation Heritage Centre, East Kirkby.

Tests ranged from an almost too simple ‘wiggle woggle’, where four drivers achieved 'wrong test' penalties, to fiendish reversing into boxes and driving several times around the same cones, which most executed correctly!

Lunch at the popular Red Lion, Revesby, satisfied our appetites with a tasty Sunday Roast and trimmings.

Six MGBs and two MGTFs battled for the Sports Car Class with novice autotesters John Hebb and Ian Parsons coming home a very respectable fourth and sixth in class.

The variety of cars gave photographers Peter Ellis and Richard Sivill plenty to keep themselves busy.

At the end of eight tests, there were just eight seconds between first and third placed MGB Roadsters, with the MMMs of Lee Clark and Mike Hewson in fourth and fifth places, following somewhat spirited drives.

Our thanks to Mike Hewson for co-ordinating the event and to all the officials and marshals on the day. It was great to see several new members helping out with the timing and line judging. Keep a check on our Calendar on the Welcome Page of the Website for Autotests over the coming months.

Look out too for the Practice Autotest, if you haven’t already ‘got the bug’!
