Lincolnshire Poachers Concours Show

The 2020 Concours will be a VIRTUAL event

Our Annual concours show has been running for a number of years now and has had different organisers and venues along the way. This year as was the case last year it will be organised by Geoff and Vicki Edge and the venue as last year will be Doddington Hall. The event is open to MG Cars and also any classic car of any Marque will be made more than welcome

To the right is our 2018 venue

Below are a couple of judges assessing cars during our 2013 Event.

The format 0f the event is very simple, clean and polish your pride and joy, drive it to Doddington, clean and polish it again and sit back whilst extremely diligent judges assess your car against a good number of similar entries. Whilst the judges are doing their very best to evaluate your efforts you can enjoy a browse around many other vehicles that are displaying, or chat with friends and similar minded individuals or pop off and see the house and gardens of Doddington Hall

One thing is for sure however, if you don't win you will have a great time and there is always next year. By the way some of us don't take this too seriously and we wash our car and thus when we attend we simply marvel at the efforts of those who practice this brilliant art.

2020 Virtual Concours

The history books will record that 2020 was the year we had the Corona 19 pandemic

This decimated our calendar for the most part of the year as we all tried to remain safe and we protected our wonderful NHS.

In an effort to try and enthuse us all to do something we have organised a virtual concours that we hope everyone will enter.

Please everyone do your bit and enter this bit of fun and monumental event, there will maybe never another chance

So to enter simply send in your photos to, mgcclincs@aol.com You can send in as many as you like to enhance your car and it would be nice if you sent a bit of text to support you application. Whatever happens please enter and keep us all entertained. I even think we will get awards so plenty to look forward to.

1960, MGA tourer 1600 purchased from a dealer in Chesterfield who imported them from the USA. Being LHD and dark blue with seats that weren’t attached to the floor, battery loose in the boot, a Perspex windscreen, a 1500cc block from an Austin Metropolitan with a 1800cc head. Prepared it for the road and drove it as an LHD entering Autotests and a few road runs. Then took it off the road for a body off rebuild. Completed chassis, brakes and suspension repairs myself whilst body was prepared for respray via Bob West. Returned colour to the original Iris Blue. New chrome, seat covers from Moss. ( Found the seats had 3 covers all placed over the seat and one of them had been painted white. Typical Texas car. Bought an old true block and head from Bob West and EMC of Worksop  rebuilt the engine since they wanted the same price for boring the block and grinding the crank plus parts as doing the work. Restoration completed in 1996, if they are ever completed.

Later fitted chrome wheels and a five speed box.

Toured most of Europe ( Le Mans, Circuit de Ardennes, Switzerland, Italy, Pyrenees.)  and found the MGA with a five speed gearbox and disc brakes a fine car which is very enjoyable to drive.

Fitted a recon Distributor over lockdown and pleased to say it passed the MOT on Monday.

Had my Midget a very long time, Started life as a standard 1275 Mk111. Had a Toyota 5 speed installed, then a 1400 A Series. Changed to a 1275 Turbo and has now morphed into a K Series along with many other mods.
Not sure how long it will stay like this as I just cant help wanting to do stuff. But think this maybe it?? I want to rebuild a Mini pick up if anyone has a wreck?

MGA 1600 MkII  850 YTJ

Manufactured August 1961.

First registered 11th May 1962

Chassis no. GHN2103108

Engine no. 16GCUH2967

Body no. B34839

Current recorded mileage 43030

I bought the car in April 1997 for the sum of £295.

The car was first registered on 11th May 1962

I am the second registered owner, the first being Valerie Martin, Miss Great Britain 1959 and I have photos of her and the car dated November 1962.  It was showing some rust on the front wings under the sidelights even then.

Charlie Blow

The original colour was Grey but it was resprayed blue (Ford Midnight Blue) in 1968.  The seats and dashboard remained red but the cockpit rails and door cards were retrimmed in blue vinyl.

I used the car as a daily driver but by the end of 1973, the rust on the front wings and corrosion of the chassis caused MOT failure.

I decided to keep the car but the rebuilding process was delayed until the 90’s and finally completed in 2018.

The car has been restored to its original colour, Dove Grey with red trim and the only major components that have been replaced are the front wings.  Everything else has been repaired/restored.

I have been in touch with the previous owner and have a lot of early history and I hope to meet her again in the future, pandemic willing.

MGB GT LE50 ~  MYD 287E

MYD 287E was registered as a Chelsea Grey Mk I MGB GT on 25 May 1967. In 2012 it was rebuilt by Frontline Developments in Abingdon as the second of fifty ‘LE50’ GTs to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the MGB using the philosophy that characterised MG from its inception: to use available technology to create a car that’s fun to drive.

The car was ordered from Frontline by Paul Darley in December 2011 and delivered in September 2012. The interior design and specification was Paul’s. Most of the subsequent LE50s have copied many of the features specified by Paul, although red and black are more common interior colour schemes.

The body and trim colours of this car are taken from Aston Martins of that era as a tribute to the MGB’s designers: Don Hayter who designed the MGB as his first project after joining MG from Aston Martin, and Sergio Pininfarina who designed the GT version of the MGB and also designed the Aston Martin DB4 and DB5.

This car now has the following features:

Body and interior

British Motor Heritage body with modified engine bay and floorpan to accept the new engine, gearbox and suspension, with bracing added for improved body stiffness and with all seams welded inside and outside and leaded for additional stiffness and to eliminate rust traps.

Body preparation and painting comprised four prime and bake cycles, one stone-chip and bake cycle, five top coats with two long bake cycles, six lacquer coats and bake cycles, and finish polishing.

 Colour:

Aston Martin sage green, used by Aston Martin in the 1950s and on this LE50 because it was the British national racing colour in 1902, the first year Britain competed in an international motor race (the Gordon Bennett Cup, which was won that year by the Englishman Selwyn Edge in a Napier).

Sound-proofing: 25 kg of Dynamat matting, and modified rain channels to minimise wind noise.

Interior: hand-built to the present owner’s specification using beige Italian leather and Alcantara, sage green piping and stitching, and Wilton carpet.

Equipment and furnishings: Air conditioning, cruise control, remote central locking with auto-close windows, transponder immobiliser, Smiths digital instruments back-lit in green, hazard warning lights, bi-Xenon headlights, electric windows, heated seats, electrically-heated windscreen and rear screen, USB sockets for Satnav and mobile phone, DAB Stereo with CD player, USB and MP3 connection, Bluetooth hands-free mobile phone connectivity, and centre armrest with cubby hole and mobile phone holder.

Engine and transmission

Description:

2-litre 4-cylinder Mazda all-alloy double-overhead-cam engine with variable valve timing, Teflon-coated forged pistons, billet crank and rods, and solid lifters. The engine management, fuel injection, 45mm direct-to-head throttle bodies, inlet and exhaust manifolds designed are custom designed and built for the LE50 by Omex Technology Systems of Cheltenham.

Output: 215 bhp @ 7,200 rpm and 174 lb ft torque @ 3,600 rpm

Compression ratio: 10.8:1.

Engine weight: 84 kg (185 lb).

Exhaust: stainless steel custom-tuned exhaust.

Gearbox: Mazda all-alloy 6-speed manual Limited-slip differential.

Wheels and tyres

Wheels: Dunlop billet-alloy wheels of the design used by MG and Jaguar race cars in the 1950s.

Tyres: Yokohama ‘C.drive 2’ 195/65/15 all-weather performance tyres.

Suspension and brakes

Front suspension: independent using LM 25 cast-alloy double-wishbones and uprights, with anti-roll bar.

Rear suspension: 5-link axle with adjustable coil-over dampers and anti-roll bar.

Steering: rack and pinion with adjustable power assistance.

Brakes: servo-assisted discs front and rear with billet-alloy four-piston callipers; front discs being ventilated and cooled, and rear discs solid.

Weight and performance

Road weight: 941.5 kg (2,076 lb) with 0.7% variance front to rear.

Top speed: in excess of 160 mph (tested at the PalmerSport Bedford Autodrome).

Acceleration: 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds (tested in wet conditions at the PalmerSport Bedford Autodrome).

The car is a 1960 model, originally an American export ( California). It was brought back to a garage in Rearsby and renovated by the previous owner, who converted it to a right hand drive.
It has an MGB engine and a 5 speed Sierra gear box.

Diana & Kirk Field
Our MG Roadster DPD181B. I have owned the car
since August 1992, it was restored during 1990 and 1991, and is still in the
same condition today. Some changes were made during restoration such as the
wheels were changed from painted wires to Chrome wires. The upholstery was
changed from black vinyl to magnolia leather.

Suzie’s entry is the Purple People Eater Victor – full restoration in 1995 – Scottish Motor Show spec + RV8 steering wheel (made in France – who’d’ve thought) – towed caravans all round Scotland & followed a mate round the racing circuits of England + Knockhill racing his Metro (ring any bells?)

Ian Mackenzie

My entry is Acid Yellow Arfur – bought to replace beloved wrecked Maestro Turbo with sensible 2 door family hatchback... - full restoration in 2002 – thought it only needed 2 new door skins & rear lower half wings, but even the rear inner wings were rotten, replaced 3.5 motor with 4 litre, Edelbrock carb (courtesy of a mate’s hand luggage), new R380 box, Quaife diff, Ron Hopkinson telescopic conversions, VERY spiff stainless twin exhaust (thank you Niki), 2-off Corbeau seats, individually wired cooling fans (ta Bob) – been all over Spain/France on hols & all over the grass at Chris Curve/Gooseneck/Mansfield trying to match the grip of my mate’s Metro racer at a Cadwell track day.... (your Metro was like Velcro).

The 2015 Concours Doddington Hall

Sunday 16th August

Unlike last year I was able to attend this year's event.

I was not disappointed the concours was well organised and extremewly well attended.

Huge attendances do not happen by accident they are the result of putting together events that enthusiasts want to attend.

And just as important the organisers work extremely hard to get their message out and attract as many entrants as possible

Thus as a measure of the efforts of the organisers this years event must rank as outstanding

So on behalf of Lincolnshire Centre a big thank you to Vicki and Geoff and their organising team.

Here's a nice testimony, check out this link https://dovepublishing.squarespace.com/blog/2015/8/17/the-culture-of-mg

Naturally I am an MG enthusiast but my 2 favourite vehicles were these 2 extremely rare examples of other makes

An F Type victor I believe

An Austin Mini Van

The 2014 Concours Doddington Hall

Sunday 17th August

Sadly as is often the case for myself I was unable to attend this year's event.

However a number of people who did attend have let me know what a great day out it was for all

So on behalf of Lincolnshire Centre a big thank you to Vicki and Geoff and anyone who helped out on the event

Poacher Concours Show
2014
By
Emma Kiteley-Connon

August 2014 will be remembered for two things, the weather and the MG Car Club Lincolnshire Centre Poacher Concours Show.
Organisers Geoff and Vicki along with their strong team ran another fabulous event and, although Vicki was in hospital, she was still able to keep up to date with the proceedings via modern technology.

This year Doddington Hall welcomed around 90 vehicles of different makes to display in their grounds again and despite the wet and very windy weather, all who attended that day thoroughly enjoyed the event and the beautiful surroundings of the hall. Car enthusiasts came from all over the country to display their cars and chat with like minded people. Oh and to hopefully take a trophy home.

There was a very high turn out of MGTFs this year with ages ranging from thirteen to two years all looking lovely with the beautiful Lincolnshire countryside as their backdrop. Also on display that day was MGs latest edition to the family the MG3. This one is owned by John Hebb and has been featured in MGE. It is so nice to see MGs hitting the streets again and this model is proving popular with drivers young and old.

Every year the show welcomes different makes and models and has two special classes for them, and every year these makes support the show by turning up, displaying and getting into the swing of the event. I’m glad to say this year was no different. MGs were joined by Jaguars, Morris Minors, Rovers, Minis, and Mercedes. There was even an Audi TT. You can always rely on a good selection and that there will be something to interest everyone.
One car that got a lot of interest from visitors and judges a like was a Ford Sierra RS Cosworth. Now these cars get a lot of interest anyway you might be thinking, but what made this one even more exciting was what was under the bonnet. Every part was gold plated from the battery cover to the windscreen washer bottle. When the sun came out, which it did, every part shone like ……..well gold!

The day was topped off by a fly past from the Red Arrows heading home from a show they’d been at towards Brighton.

So as the show season now draws to a close we can be very proud of another very successful Poacher Concours Show. Well done to everyone involved your hard work paid off again.

Oh what am I saying I’ve not mention the winners…………Congratulations to
Brian Cliffton and his MGTD, Kirk Field with his BRoadster, the GT of Peter Newman won best MGBGT, the TF class was won by Len Hartley, John Simpsons gorgeous ZT-T won the Z class.
Colin Payne’s Triumph TR4 won the best Non MG pre 1990’s and Tony Lyndsey in his Mercedes SLK known as “Max” won post 1990’s.
The winner of the Elite class this year was a very popular car again as it was last year the MGA Roadster of Nigel Hanies.

Colin Payne also won the Premier Condition class. And Brian Cliffton’s MGTD won the Premier Concours trophy.
All first place trophies will be awarded at the centres Dinner Dance next year

Below is a list of the successful competitiors and a few photographs.

More photos will be added and I am sure. Thanks

The 2013 Concours Doddington Hall

The majestic Elizabethan Doddington Hall was the venue for the 2013 Lincolnshire Poacher Concours & Pride of Ownership Show organised, for a third year, by Geoff & Vicki Edge.

This event was another great success & very well supported with no fewer than 85 cars of different makes & models in attendance, all enjoying the wonderful weather, great venue & happy friendly atmosphere.

For those who wanted to exercise their "little grey cells" there was a treasure hunt kindly planned out by Ian & Sue Mackenzie. The clues were to be found around the grounds of this lovely family home & surrounding area.

If that wasn't enough there was also a raffle to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support Charity. This was also very well supported and donations were even made by people who had just popped out for the day due to the lovely weather.

We are very proud to annouce that the raffle raised an amazing £436 for this charity.

Geoff & Vicki would like to thank all the judges who gave their time to judge some of the beautiful cars on display. Pete Lincoln who provided the sound track to the day, again just the right mix of music. Also Peter Best Insurance for sponsoring the show. MG Enthusiast, MOSS, M.R.S Classics, British Motor Heritage, MGF Register, Hamiltion Classics plus many more who very kindly donated prices for the raffle.

Thank you to all at Doddington Hall for looking after everyone's needs, providing lovely food & for letting us host our show in the grounds of your beautiful house & gardens.

On the right are the results:
