MISCellaneous NEWS Issue 4

The newsletter of the MGCC Moss International Speed Championship Northern

17th May 1999

My how time flies when you’re enjoying yourself...

It hardly seems like a month since I was last slaving over a hot computer, bashing out my last missive. But there you go, it was. Two events have sped by since then, at opposite ends of the Northern Series geographic reaches, Oliver’s Mount in the far North of Yorkshire and Shelsley Walsh in the soft underbelly of Herefordshire. Two events of contrasting character, although similar types of hill. Both fast power hills in the dry, but rather tricky in the wet.

On Bank Holiday weekend the sun shone on the righteous in Scarborough, where a moderate field of 11 assorted MGs tackled Oliver’s. Records were in abundance, with newcomer, Richard Eaton in his MGF taking one in his first ever event and with it the class win. Well done that man! In the Road-going class both Mark Green (Midget) and Stephen Moore (Maestro) set records, with Mark taking the class, just ahead of a very consistent Edward Revell in another Midget.

A week later it was a very different story when the first inter-series challenge was taken up by over 30 stalwarts in the pouring rain at Shelsley Walsh. From an entry of 45, 35 MGs were accepted and 32 started the event. During a day of constantly changing weather there were thrills and spills aplenty, and foremost among those were our stalwarts of flambouyant Northern driving, "Spinner" Garvey and "Panel basher" Tredell. In fact almost everyone was in on the act at some stage during the day, I lost count of the cars that went through the "Esses" sideways. The results speak for themselves, but interesting to note that the fastest MG was a Standard spec car, the MGF VVC of flying ace Diggers, while drive of the day must go to "Southern Belle" Carol Bloomfield, who after the first timed runs in the wet, was 5th fastest MG!!

We can now all look forward to the next joint event, the specially extended Silverstone Sprint. Can’t wait for that, just hope the weather’s a bit better.

Silverstone Sprint

This event is now officially full. With over 120 entries, only registered championship contenders will get a run, and we’ve got almost 100 of those.

Event News

Enclosed you should find the regs for both the Anglesey Sprints and you should also have received the Harewood regs. All three of these meetings are underwritten by the MGCC and it is important that we get a full entry. Please do your best to support these meetings.

You may also have heard by now that Barbon is off. This was due to the organising club not being able to get together enough support to run the meeting. Unfortunate, but I am confident we will have another opportunity next year. To replace this meeting I had arranged an alternative event 1 week later at High Auldgirth, but just after I’d printed off the first version of this newsletter I received notice that this event has also been cancelled. So now I have to find another replacement. I’m having a really bad year with event cancellations.

And Finally...

Due to popular demand we will once again be offering the opportunity to purchase championship regalia, in the form of MISC T-shirts. Same design as before, but a choice of colours; the pale colours will be printed in black as last year, the dark colours hopefully will be printed in white. An order form is enclosed. Orders returned by the middle of next week should be available for Silverstone, I hope. I also hope to make available Polo shirts with the championship logo embroidered on the front. Prices for this will be about £15 depending on order size. The same colours & adult sizes will be available and if you are interested use the same form but make sure you state clearly you want a Polo shirt.
