MISCellaneous NEWS Issue 7

The newsletter of the MGCC Moss International Speed Championship Northern

19th August 1999

Summertime.......again!

Newsletters are like busses, you wait 7 weeks for one to arrive, then two come together! I know it was only a week or so ago that I sent out the last missive, but with the Baitings Regs to send, and the 3 sisters Regs on their way too, I thought another one wouldn’t go amiss.

So, what’s happened in the last week. Well we’ve been out at 3 Sisters for the first of two visits there this year, and a jolly fun time we all had too. The day started with an overcast sky, but we were optimistic for a good day, having been assured by Andy Long that it wouldn’t rain; "used to work at the met office, not enough vertical development in the cloud for rain you know". So he lied, it threw it down just before the MGs were due out. First practice saw everyone slipping and sliding about, 4 wheel drift and lots of opposite lock. Diggers was magnificent in the wet, one of very few below 100 seconds, while Tezza was more than a little nervous and 5 seconds off the pace in the V8. But that soon changed as the sun came out halfway through the second practice runs and rapidly dried the track to produce an excellent afternoon’s competition and three new records. John continued to excel in the F, taking almost 2 seconds off the record, while Andrew Pearson and George Pawlyn took almost a second each off their respective Road-going and Modified Midget records.

Other drives of note were those of Mark Green, who finally got his act together on the last run to notch up second behind Andrew, KC who pushed George so hard in the Modified Midgets, but just fell short of the record, and Simon "Paralytic" Abrahams who astounded everyone by keeping it on the grey stuff. Which is more than can be said of Mr Vertical Development himself, Andy "VD" Long, who’d held it together in the wet, then lost in on his first dry run discovering that the Esses weren’t flat in 3rd after all. Another contender for Spinner of the Year me thinks!

And finally, "poseur of the day" goes to Piglet Man for answering his mobile on the finishing straight, and still recording his fastest time.

Next stop Anglesey, lets hope the weather’s as good as the July meeting.

The Shirley Stafford Trophy

This is starting to develop into quite a battle. With another event gone the lead has changed hands and everyone is bunching up. Diane Hewett has eeked out a narrow 2 point lead over joint second placed Pauline and Helen, while Alison Pattinson is coming up on the rails, just 5 points further back. A close finish is in prospect.

Event News

Everyone should now have had Regs for all the remaining meetings. Baitings are enclosed and the second set of 3 sisters Regs were given out to those at last week-end’s meeting or should have arrived with you this week. The 3 sisters meeting is filling up, but I have arranged for 25 spaces to be reserved for MISC competitors until next week-end (29th August). So, if you want to do the meeting, SEND YOUR FORM OFF NOW!!!!

Stickers

I now have some available, but I have forgotten who needed them. Call me it you need one.

T-shirts and Polo shirts

I still don’t have enough orders to make a run worthwhile, another form is enclosed in a vain attempt to rustle up more business.

Well that’s all for now, see you in Wales.
