MGSC NEWS Issue 1 N&S

The newsletter of the MG Car Club Speed Championship

7th February 2000

Welcome to another year of competition with the MGCC Speed Championship....

Hi here everyone, welcome to another year of fun filled week-ends with the MG Car Club Speed Championship. Brought to you this year without the benefit of a safety net. Yes we’re flying without the aid of a sponsor. Negotiations are still on-going with a couple of potential sponsors, but I’m not holding my breath, consequently I have been obliged to increase the registration fee to cover our costs. Please note that this year’s registration fee is £25. Also, note that any cheques should be made payable to the MGCC, not the North Western Centre.

So, on to business.

2000 Regulations

These are still with the MSA, but as regs for events are staring to emerge, then I thought I’d better send out the latest version of the calendar and a registration form. They are largely unchanged from those sent out with the last newsletter of last year, and should be posted on the web site for those with access to the net.

Calendar

This is starting to become a bit of a habit. Once again I have had dates changed on me from those I thought were finalised. I append the latest version, that sent to the MSA, but this may well change.

I have received notice this week that the Porlock hillclimb is a week earlier meaning it now clashes with Prescott so I have to make a choice, or leave it to you chaps to pick your favourite. Other changes to the Southern calendar include a re-invitation to Finlake at the start of the season, and you should all have received regs for this by now. This replaces Odicome at the end of the year. If you want to get into this first meeting, send your entry off NOW! The other major change is a new date for Goodwood, this is now a month earlier and is a return to the Southsea meeting we’ve been to before.

Changes to the Northern series are that High Auldgirth has moved back a week, so this is now the same week-end as Harewood, albeit on the following day. You will note the two Harewood dates have swapped days, the first meeting is now the Saturday 13th May and the second the Sunday 10th September. Anglesey is also a week earlier on the 2nd July and no loner clashes with the GP, which is at EASTER!

The other changes that are possible in the Southern series are to move Llys-y-Fran and the welsh sprint back to 29th & 30th July, to allow an extra Wiscombe (AMOC) to be slotted in to replace the missing Prescott if this is removed from the Southern calendar. But this is just an idea at the moment.

Regs for 2000 events

These should have started to drop through Southern letterboxes this week. I have sent label runs of 1999 competitors to the first 2 round North & South. The rest will be from registrations hereafter.

Pre-season Testing/Track days

The NW Centre is once again organising an open track day on 10th March at the 3 sisters track near Wigan. The cost of this is £60 for a full day, £40 for half a day. No licence is required, just common sense and a crash hat, Anyone who is interested should contact John Fairclough on 01257 482265 to book a place, or just send him the money but say whether its am or pm if you’re only doing half a day. The address is: Gardeners Cottage, Common End, Adlington, Lancs PR7 4DT

Well that’s all for now, see you at Curborough.
