Safety Fast! Notes for June 2007

First a big thank you to the marshals and officials who helped at the Wessex sprint. For the first time in weeks the heavens opened and the morning practise was wet, wet, wet, resulting in numbers of spinners. However, by the time of the competitive runs in the afternoon the sun was out and the track rapidly dried. There were only 20 MGs from the 106 starters with awards going to Terry Pigott (V8 - 88.31), Rob Orford (MGB 90.67), Mark Walker (Midget 93.93) and Martin Phillis (MGA 100.12).

I've not forgotten about the Kimber Trial, but Peter Jones has written a separate report for publishing in Safety Fast. The Navigational Scatter planned for March was cancelled due to lack of advanced entries. I'm sure you all appreciate, when organising any event the organiser needs an idea of the numbers turning up beforehand, so please enter in advance.

SILVERSTONE CALIFORNIA CUP AUTOTEST - 23 JUNE
The Centre continues to run this event on the Saturday morning. This is your chance to compete in motor sport at Silverstone in your everyday MG. There are classes for all MGs so why not give it a go?. Neil Lock (01275 817915) would be more than happy to receive your entry or why not volunteer to marshal. Entry forms are on our web site or give Neil a call but don't delay, do it now.

OAKSEY AUTOAERO CHARITY DAY - 1 JULY
This is the centre's major social event, so come along, relax, admire the MGs and the old planes which fly in and out during the day. Bring a picnic, but there is also a barbecue as well as tea and cakes in the club house. We are also pleased to have the 'T' register coming alone to enjoy their annual 'T Party'. There is also a fun driving test to enter. The usual excuse for not entering "it might damage the car", is definitely not applicable in this event, any wheel spin is penalised.

The event takes place at Oaksey, near Malmesbury, roll up any time after 11am. Further details and an entry form are on our web site or give Tony Blake a call (01179 690650). This is an event that is definitely worth entering in advance, £5 per car including all occupants, compared to £5 per person (under 15s are free) on the day. The event is open to the general public, so please invite your friends. The money raised goes to Wiltshire Air Ambulance Appeal and other local charities. The photo below was taken by Richard Lucking at last year's event.
