Safety Fast! Notes for July 2007

There may be time just to remind you of the MG AutoAero Day at Oaksey, just off the A429 near Malmesbury, Wilts on 1st July. For a good cause, it's largely a social event in aid of Wiltshire Air Ambulance. It is also a great opportunity to meet like minded folk who fly rather than drive, but otherwise we have a lot in common. Tony Blake is organising and can be reached at 0117 9790108 or visit the Centre's website, see address above.

Not strictly an SW Centre event, but MGOT are holding a Track Day at Castle Combe Circuit on the 9th, so if you're considering starting sprinting go along and observe, but don't forget to take your current membership card for entry. Visit www.mgs-on-track.com for more details and a possible entry if spaces remain. I like Castle Combe circuit. Some of the corners are quite challenging, but in my experience now there is a chicane in the back straight and another after Quarry Corner none of the corners are so far apart that my TD and I run out of breath – unlike Goodwood, but that's a story for another day.

Sunday 15th July, Pucklechurch Gymkhana just north of Bristol is set to happen at Henfield just off the Mangotsfield to Westerleigh road. It's very easy to find – on the map it's half way between J18 and J19 of the M4 and within sight of the motorway. Jon Pittard (01275 879632) will layout out a mixture of timed and untimed tests in a largely smooth field after the grass has been cut. I can thoroughly recommend it as a fun venue, and about as non-damaging as this kind of event can be.

Derek Richards (01935 862180) is organising the annual Dorset Day Out on 22 July. He hasn't revealed the location of the start (not to me anyway) so contact Derek for that and other important information, what maps are required and where watering holes are. Officially known as a touring assembly it's a social run around the beautiful scenery of rural Dorset.

Finally a plug for an early August event the Chew Valley Gymkhana on Sunday 5th August, this time south of Bristol in the Chew Valley, to be run by our Centre Chairmen Dave Coppock (01934 834429). Contact Dave for entry info etc.

Slightly further ahead on the 18th August 2007 local contacts Mike and Gill Coleman tell me they are co-ordinating a Charity Fundraising Event in aid of the Bristol Childrens Hospital at the Kingswood Rugby Club, Kingswood, Bristol between 10:00am and 4:00pm. The event itself consists of Arena Displays, Fun & Trade Stalls, Military Vehicles, Live Music , Car Boot and Fun Fair etc. There will be acres of space and the organisers want to incorporate stands for Classic/Modern Vehicles. They have asked if I can help by arranging a stand to display our members' vehicles. Obviously a they have a static display in mind. Offers of help and vehicles would be gratefully received. Please contact me on the phone number above.
