Safety Fast! Notes for October 2007

RECENT EVENTS

Yes, there were some!

After all the bad weather it seems that summer arrived in the middle of August.  How good it is to be able to report that the Mendip PCT ran in the dry and with a good entry although it was a close call, rain would not have stopped it but Foot and Mouth nearly did.  A report and results should appear elsewhere in this issue.

September 8th was our Wiscombe Hill Climb and we were pleased to see a large entry of 120 or so ranging from an MG 18/80 to a 3.5 litre single seater Pilbeam including an ERA C type. The weather was great and judging by the smiles and waves from the drivers returning down the hill they really enjoyed themselves. Many thanks to Bruce Weston, his officials and all the marshals. Next year is set to be something special but more of this nearer the date.

Unfortunately we have still failed to find a suitable venue following the loss of the car park at Filton, so we had to cancel the autotest which was scheduled for September 23rd.  If anyone knows of a possible autotest site please let John Delafield 01453 544497 know and we will investigate.

Also cancelled was the Dorset Day Out as the car park for the lunch stop was waterlogged.  Many thanks to Derek Richards who did all the work to put the trip on, but at least we can save it until next year!!!

FUTURE EVENTS

October 20th is the date for the Castle Combe Sprint run by Bristol Pegasus Motor Club.  It is probably too late for an entry but contact Bob Hart 01179  409772 if you can marshal.  The event is a round of the MGCC Luffield Cars Speed Championship so there should be a good MG entry.

Our last championship event of this year is at Chew Stoke South of Bristol, The Kimber Production Car Trial  held on October 21st in a smooth field so perfectly suitable for road going MG’s, Gerald Burridge was the best MG at this venue in August in a standard MGF so why not enter, it might be muddy but that should be all, contact Bruce Weston 01963 440941 or visit our website for info and entry forms www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgccsw

Andrew Owst is again planning our usual informal Christmas Dinner at the Ring O’ Bells for the December natter on the 4th.  This even gets larger each year as it is always such good value, so call Andrew on 01761 221893 to book your place.
