Midget Register Road Run (Sept 2017)

Several members of the NWMGCC and their hardy wives braved the inclement weather on Sunday, 3 September, to go on the Midget Register Road Run, which this year terminated at Upton House. It didn't pour with rain, but it was drizzly on and off for most of the day. And cold. It didn't stop us from getting out the picnic chairs and tables, and having our lunch on the lawns that run alongside the drive to the house, where all our cars were parked. Upton House has connections to the co-founder of the Shell Oil company, and last time we visited the place there was a good display of Shell memorabilia in the rooms. This year, the National Trust had apparently decided to reduce the Shell content and had other paintings and antiques on display. Most of us got home just before the heavens opened and it started raining properly. We understand that this might be the last Midget Register run for a while as the current organisers are giving it up, and no-one else has stepped forward. A familiar story among classic car groups. It's a shame as the Register usually plots a scenic route around the Cotswolds, and this year was no exception. Oh well, we can but hope. Thanks to the Midget Register for a pleasant day out.

Club Member wins prestigious award (July 2017)

NWMGCC member Andy Brain won a major prize at the Midland Automobile Club's 'Classic Nostalgia' weekend, held at Shelsley Walsh over the weekend of 22/23 July. Andy's superb Riley Kestrel took the laurels in Class Three of the 'concours d'elegance', judged by Simon Taylor and Malcolm Thorne from 'Classic & Sports Car' magazine, sponsors of the entire weekend. The judges were impressed by the fact that Andy's car is, paintwork aside, entirely original. Well done, Andy.

Causeway Coast Tour Northern Ireland (June 2016)

“In Search of the Craic”

I’d never been to Ireland before. Neither had some of my mates in the North Worcestershire MG Car Club. So when we were planning our tours and trips earlier in the year, we decided that a holiday somewhere in Ireland should feature on the list. Some readers will be familiar with the name of Scenic & Continental Car Tours, based in Kent, who specialise in tours for classic cars and car clubs, and some of our lot have used them on several occasions in the past for trips to Lake Garda, the Channel Islands, Scottish Borders, and the Isle of Man, and we have always found them to be reliable, with a very good choice of hotels, so their 5-day excursion to Northern Ireland’s Causeway Coast, starting on Sunday, June 19 and returning on Thursday, June 23, sounded just the ticket.
