Extract from March's Octagon Car Club Bulletin

Secretary's Notes

Well here I am back from holiday and browned off. Four shows already since the end of January, and the fifth will have occurred at Alexandra Palace by the time you read this.

Let's start with the forthcoming events that are either MG orientated or those Shows that we will be attending in an official capacity. On 6 April there is a Continental MG Exhibition at Ruibeurs. Further details of this event can be obtained by phoning 009 369 2867. This is followed by the Kimber Run on 13 April, starting at Chatsworth House, Derbys. We will have a Club stand at this event. The previous day, a Birthday Trial is being held for the first time at the same venue, organised by the MG CC. Octagon members are invited to enter, no competition licence being needed. The event is of a Production Car Trial type and further details can be obtained by phoning Brian Osborn on 0121 453 3380. Also on 13 April, Brooklands Museum, Weybridge is organising a MeGa Gathering to help celebrate Brooklands 90th Anniversary. We will also have a stand there. April 27 is the MG CC South East Centre, Chatham's Muster to which Octagon members are invited. Having been to Chatham Historic Dockyard in the past, I believe that members will find this of great interest and none of the family should be bored. Further details from Brian Galipeau on 01737 832100 pre-booked entry is advised. May, for a change, does not have any MG events this year, but once again we have been allocated a stand at Classic & Sports Car Show, NEC, Birmingham on 3-5 May. Ferrari enthusiasts will be catered for and it is Ferrari's 50th Anniversary (isn't it lucky to celebrate its birth with the Y type). We again need cars for this event, so please contact me as soon as possible if you are interested in loaning your car. The next event is the Great British Picnic at old Warden Aerodrome, Biggleswade, Beds, SG18 9EP. Entry forms can be obtained from the organiser at the above address or by phoning 01767 627502.

Then comes the Wings Run to Abingdon on 8 June. We are having five starting points this year, the new one being organised by the Shropshire Natter. Further details will appear in next months Bulletin, but in the meantime, a self addressed envelope and send to me, should eventually give you an application form.

The following weekend sees MG CC's Silverstone Weekend, another event you should not miss. We will again have a Club stand there. Coys International Historic Festival is being held at Silverstone on 25/26/27 July. Although it will not have such a strong MG presence this year, this is another event that should not be missed. A special three day weekend ticket can be obtained for #18 if you complete a Club Members' booking form by 31 May. These can be obtained by writing to Festival Office, Silverstone Circuits Ltd., Silverstone, Towcester, Northants, NN12 8TN. The next event at which we will have a stand is Harrogate MG Club's Harrogate MG 97 at Ripley Castle on 2&3 August. We do need cars for this event on the 3rd, so offers would be appreciated. Members living in the North will be sent a leaflet describing the activities more fully, but members living elsewhere can obtain details by contacting Dave Porritt on 01274 622198 or Alan Harper on 01423 868641.

Another new event is the Footman James Retro Festival at the NEC on 9/10 August. This is for pre-war cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles, pedal cycles and motorboats. An exciting concept which should prove of great interest to the enthusiast. Again we will need pre-war cars for the event.

MG Car Club, Luxembourg celebrates its 40th birthday on 29 - 31 August. Programming and entry form can be obtained from Ton Mauthuis, 1 Rue Tomm, 9454 FOUHREN, Luxembourg, Tel: 84573.

Finally, one of our members, Tony Mundella, is helping to organise his local village Fayre and would like a display of four or five cars. The event is Frensham Village Fayre and is being held on 21 June. If you are interested, Tony can be contacted at The Old Post House , Priory Lane, Frensham, Farnham, Surrey, GU10 3DW. Tel: 01252 794466.

It is hoped we will have a new spares list in the Bulletin within the next few months. At the moment I am having problems with notifying you of price increases that are often not notified to me, until I receive the invoice for the parts I have obtained on your behalf. We try to keep prices down.

Finally, I hope you will join with me in wishing Dick Knudson, a long and happy retirement. Dick was co-founder and for 30 years, Chairman of the New England T Register. All the best Dick.

See you at the event.

Happy MotorinG
Harry.
