Rover staff face shorter hours

Staff at Rover are preparing themselves for an extended pre-Christmas shutdown and short-time working because of production cutbacks.

Company chiefs and union leaders are in talks to tackle over-capacity that is being blamed on the high value of sterling and overseas economic problems.

The company has already announced 1,500 job losses earlier this year and is not ruling out further redundancies. A spokesman said ahead of the meeting that there were no plans for immediate job losses to add to the 1,500.
