MGF MAKES RACING DEBUT

Don Kettleborough has taken the honour of taking the brand new British Motor Heritage backed machine onto the track for the very first time and was at our first meeting of the year at Cadwell Park at the end of March. He will be at our Silverstone International Meeting with his MGF.

The car which has been prepared by Gaydon Team Spirit - a group of enthusiasts working in their spare time at Rover Gaydon Test Centre - is virtually standard apart from the addition of a full roll cage, fire extinguisher, harness, racing seat, sports steering wheel and Dunlop racing tyres. Don has also incorporated some suspension tweaks based on the Group N production racing Metro GTi that he took to class victory in the 1994 National Saloon Car Cup.

Painted in the traditional M.G. colours of red with a white hardtop, it will present a familiar colour scheme to M.G. motorsport fans.

The car is contesting the M.G. Car Club's Anglia Phoenix Challenge series.

M.G.TO BE FEATURED MARQUE AT SILVERSTONE FESTIVAL

For the first time since the event's inception, M.G. will enjoy feature marque status at Europe's most important historic motor sport weekend, the Coys International Historic Festival at Silverstone (2nd - 4th August).

Rover Group, British Motor Heritage and the British Racing Driver's Club are combining with three leading marque clubs - M.G. Car Club, M.G. Owner's Club and the Octagon Club - to create a memorable weekend for M.G. enthusiasts. Plans are still being finalised, but key elements already confirmed are:

Announcing the project, Rod Ramsay, Rover Group director of marketing programmes, said "The recent launch of the MGF has brought the marque to the fore once again and reminded enthusiasts the world over of M.G.s distinguished history. We are honoured that he BRDC has invited M.G. to be a featured marque at this year's International Historic Festival and are working hard with the three clubs to make it an unforgettable weekend for M.G. enthusiasts."

This year, the Coys International Historic Festival has been moved by seven days to be staged over the first weekend of August; a varied programme of up to 14 races will be complemented by the largest annual gathering of historic sports and racing cars and off-track attractions for all the family. In addition to M.G., the event will celebrate Brabham race cars to mark the 30th anniversary of Sir Jack Brabham winning the World Championship in a car of his own construction.

Special ticket prices are on offer to club members to encourage as large a gathering as possible to head for Silverstone.
