In any vehicle the dashboard reflects the "business
end" of the car. The original dash was painted metal and was subsequently replaced
with elm wood veneer over hardwood. This final restoration includes the use of carbon
fiber laminated to hardwood for an updated state-of-the-art look. I initially attempted to
laminate a pre-finished sheet of polymer impregnated carbon fiber to the wooden
foundation. The result of this attempt resulted in a lumpy uneven finish. I then contacted
a company that makes carbon fiber skate boards and they agreed to laminate the carbon
fabric to the wood with resin using hi pressure equipment that yielded satisfactory
results as shown here.
