Safety Fast! Notes for April 2006

SW Calendar
I'm pretty sure that South West members should have found a printed copy of the calendar inside Safety Fast! this month. Although the calendar would have been bang up to date when it was sent for printing, things do change and you are best advised to check with the event organiser before setting off. Better still, why not check the website?

Forthcoming Events
The 70th Anniversary Kimber Classic Trial will be held in Somerset on the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd April. The route has been 'softened' in recent years to provide an event similar to that enjoyed by the competitors way back in 1937 when the event was inaugurated. A Midget of some description would have been the vehicle of choice back then, but nowadays almost anything goes. The most modern of last year's entries was an MG TC, but I have seen modern Midgets and MGBs amongst the field in previous years. If you want to drive, marshal or spectate then you need to speak to Andrew Owst as soon as possible; Andrew's number is 01761 221893. There's a formal dinner on Saturday night and, if you survive that, a light-hearted Gymkhana on the Sunday. Then it will take you another month to clean the car, but I suppose that it part of the fun!

Next up is the Wessex Sprint on Bank Holiday Monday, the 1st of May. The event is held at the old RAF airfield at Colerne, north of Bath. Although the event was oversubscribed (it is organised jointly with several other clubs), MG entries were a bit thin on the ground in 2005. Bruce Morgan is your contact, he's on 01275 790855.

You then have to wait until the 21st May for your next dose of MG'ing. The Wye Valley Social Run is always well supported, and reports are always glowing. Normally (although I have not checked) the Run takes in the scenery around the River Wye and Forest of Dean, stopping for lunch and afternoon tea at very well chosen locations. You can find out more by talking to Terry Davies on 01989 562366.

The last event that I'm going to publicise this month is the Bath Gymkhana on 4th June. Unusually, this event starts after lunch so that the churchgoers, the golfers and the lazy amongst you have no excuse not to enter. Peter Jones runs the event in his own inimitable style - call him on 01225 837545 for more information.
