Sunday 8th February - Brooklands - Weybridge -
Surrey
The Monte Carlo Challenge is Europes longest
and toughest winter rally for classic cars, though at the British
start point, 'Brooklands' on Sunday 8th of February, it was more like
a early spring day. Brooklands was just one of six starting points,
the others being:
Oslo Benevento Biarritz
Noordwijk Rothenburg ob der Tauber
(time to get that
Atlas out!)
For the drivers from Oslo it meant a Saturday start, a day earlier
than the other five starting points, with all the 180+ competitors
meeting up in Annecy, on Monday 9th February. Annecy, is close to the
Italian/Swiss borders in the Alps and is about 30 miles south of
Geneva, & lies in France's Haute Savoie region.
There were all
kinds of cars entered, the MG marque, of course being well
represented as always in this paticular challenging event. Monday was
to take the competitors on a loop into the Alps, then retuning once
more to Annecy for the overnight stop on Tuesday 10 Feb. Wednesday the
rally heads south to towards Monaco & Monte Carlo. Wednesday the
competitors tackle some night driving, the first cars arriving at
about 10 am on Thursday 12th. The top 60 finishers then go on to
final mountain test during Thursday night.

After being flagged away, competitors
completed a short course before leaving for the drive to Dover, which
included a short section of the 'Brooklands' banked track
