The latest MGF now comes in three derivatives with all models featuring improved specification, upgraded interior and a three-year warranty. The new models go on sale in August 1999.
The first significant changes to the MGF since launch include a new Steptronic derivative, which features the latest steering wheel mounted button-controlled gear change system.
The MGF Steptronic is the first sports car to give the option of either automatic transmission for smooth urban driving, or a six speed manual sequential gear change for optimised sporting performance. The automatic can be set to Sport or Drive modes, while gear change in Steptronic mode is means of either a floor mounted shift stick or steering wheel mounted controls using six pre-set ratios on the CVT (continuously variable transmission).
All three MGF derivatives are now backed with a three year warranty. The warranty has no limitation on mileage or items covered in the first year, while the second and third years of ownership are protected by a dealer-backed warranty up to 60,000 miles.
MGF now features as standard, a colour keyed windscreen surround, new alloy wheels, adjustable steering wheel, electric mirrors, new in-car entertainment systems with additional speakers, sculptured seats with new leather/cloth combinations, soft-feel interior trim and the option of a new light walnut interior colour. The VVC derivative features a CD player as standard and 16" alloy wheels with 215/40 tyres.
