MG XPOWER K SPORTS 1600 CUP

Today MG Sport & Racing Ltd announced that it is to be the main sponsor for the newly titled MG XPOWER K Sports 1600 Cup. All cars entered in the series will continue to be powered by the 1.6-litre K Series engine and will carry the logo 'Powered by MG XPOWER'.

Rob Oldaker, managing director, MG Sport & Racing said: "MG Sport & Racing are pleased to be associated with the Clubmans Register and to continue the support previously supplied by Rover Group. This also furthers our positioning in supplying engines to our motorsport customers."

The 2002 MG XPOWER K Sports Cup will be contested over 12 rounds, visiting all the major UK circuits between early April and October. Competitor interest is currently running at record levels and grid numbers are expected to reach 25 cars for each of the races.

Commenting on the deal Jamie Champkin, chairman, Clubmans Register said: "Confirmation of backing from MG Sport & Racing is a tremendous boost for the championship. Our category is renowned for close competition in a sporting atmosphere, and adding the MG XPOWER brand to the series will only serve to enhance that reputation. I am delighted to welcome MG to K Sports 1600 racing."
