3D Printing

Many parts on the MGTD are no longer supplied. This leaves the car owner either without the required part, replacing the part with a substitute that is often not original in appearance of functionality, or paying someone to create one off replacement.

The advent of 3D printers provides an opportunity for the hobbyist to recreate many precautions for their car at a reasonable cost (assuming the printer is not part of the ROI) quickly and easily. 3D printed parts can resemble Bakelite, plastic and even rubber making them quite versatile.

Within these pages I will describe the 3D models that I have created or obtained from others that you can use to create your own parts. I will also provide the CAD stl file so you can use this to create a slice file for your particular material and printer. The items that I deal with in these pages are:

Rubber Parts

Rubber parts are generally formed in a mold and often Vulcanized. This is pretty much impossible for the hobbyist to do but there may be alternatives in using flexible 3D printer filaments. While not an exact replacement for molded rubber parts, it can be useful for more solid parts. You will need to determine what hardness the rubber part is that you wish to duplicate as the filaments have a wide range of hardness.

Original Battery Pads

These pads were placed between the battery bracket and the battery at the corners.

Battery Pad STL File

Note: It is suggested that you print flexible filaments very slowly. Also, the infill should be at least 60%. You should also print at the highest quality level and probably at the hottest setting recommended by the filament manufacture.
