This section provides technical information about the MGTD. The format follows the workshop manual with each item of this website in its appropriate workshop manual chapter. In addition you will find access to the mg-cars.org.uk TD/TF forum archives on these pages with various precanned searches within each chapter for common interst items for quick reviews.

Engine

Information about the engine and its function such as the sump, oil pump, big end bearings, rocker assembly, cylinder head, pistons, connecting rods, cylinders, pistons, manifolds, water pumo, timing chain, tappets, valves, crankshaft, engine mounts, push-rods, camshaft, flywheel and removal of the engine/transmission.

Fuel System

Information about the fuel system and its function such as the fuel tank, fuel pump and the carburetters and their adjustment.

Ignition Equipment

This section covers the ingintion equipment in the car including low tension circuits, high tension cables, spark plugs, contact breaker, distributor, condenser, distributor brushes, and high lift cams.

Cooling System

This section is about the cars cooling system and includes draing and filling the cooling system, removing the radiator, adjusting the fan belt and maintaining the water pump.

Flywheel and Clutch

In this section we provide information of the flywheel and clutch of the car including: adjusting the clutch, clutch removal, dismanting the clutch, assembling the clutch, refitting the clutch, release levers, refinish clutch discs, throughout bearing.

Gearbox

This section describes the transmission or gearbox of the car including removing the engine and gearbox, dismanting the gearbox, the mainshaft, the synchromesh components and the speedometer drive.

Propeller Shaft

This section covers the propeller shaft and includes the universal joints, removing the propeller shaft from the car, dismantling and assembly, inspection and replacement.

Rear Axle

This section describes the cars rear axle including removing the brake drums and hubs, brake plates, half-shalfs, removing the rear axle, dismantling, crown wheel, differential cage, pinion and changing the rear axle ratio.

Rear Road Springs

Steering Gear

This section on Hydraulic Dampers contains replenishing fluids, rear dampers, front dampers, damper bearings and damper repair.

Braking System

The Braking System covers the adjustment of the brake pedal, brake shoe adjustments, bleeding the braking system, the master cylinder, brake assemblies, wheel cylinders, brake-shoes, brake fluids, hand brake and the brake system pipes and hoses.

Electrical Equipment

This section includes engine lubrication, gearbox lubrication, rear axle lubrication, grease gun lubrication, carburetter dashpot lubrication, steering gearbox lubrication, air cleaner lubrication, distributor lubrication, dynamo lubrication, front wheel bearings, engine oil pick-up and priming the engine oil.

Body

This section provides technical information about the body of the MGTD. There are tips, techniques and original information regarding the features of the exterior elements or body of the car.

Chassis Frame Repairs

This section deals with the repair of the M.G. type box-sectioned chassis frame, damaged in accident, where the facilities used by the frame manufacturers are not available.

Interior

This section provides technical information about the interior of the MGTD. There are tips, techniques and original information regarding the features of the cabin or interior of the car.
